Video is grabby with TCPMP

First, thanks to everyone for the wonderful, invaluable info on here.

I've read all the posts about TCPMP and plugins, and installed it/them last night to play some mp4 files I got from a friend who has an ipod. There does not appear to be DRM on either of the 2 files I'm trying to play--I can play them on my PC in WMP just fine. I have my Axim X50v processor set to max performance, and I'm using WM2003, btw.

The audio on both files plays without hang or glitch. The video hangs severely, though. I think it's using FFmpeg AVC as the video codec. I DLed all codecs I could find for TCPMP. Am I using the wrong one? Any suggestions? I really wanna show my friend what a waste his ipod is!

Thanks in advance!

I believe you need to use the "Experimental AVC plugin".

I got it at http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/

You might try shutting off wireless and bluetooth, if they're running. Also any other programs that might be taking up CPU time.

I never tried mp4, but I did try WMA and AVI files with much the same result you're getting. When I switched to Ogg Vobis XVID, which is also mpeg-4, all my problems went away. I'm too ignorant about this stuff to know what that means, though.

It all depends on how the original file was encoded. The settings that work best with an ipod aren't neccesarially the best for a PPC. Seeing as how I have no real interest in ipod videos I don't know what to tell you best settings wise.

IPod videos play fine for me on my X50v. The FFmpeg AVC codec is not as tweaked as the coreAVC codec. There is a good thread on this over at www.doom9.org. (Great website for video stuff by the way.)

Moat, thanks for the website--good stuff. I think this thing is trying to use only FFmpeg AVC as its video codec for some reason. How do I force it to use the experimental one?
