Efficient way to store and use SD cards ?

Hi,
would like to get some advice on the best way to use and store the SD card. Do you guys normally just leave the SD card in the Axim most of the time or take it out when shutting off the Axim ? Any negative effects on leaving it in all the time ? Thanks.

It's fine to leave memory cards installed all the time. There is some power consumption but it would be considered minimal. At this time, WM5 seems to have a problem with CF cards but that is more of a WM5 not memory card problem per se.

I have a very small USB SD card reader (looks like a regular USB data 'key') and I tend to keep my 1Gb SD card in the reader & pop in my X51v when needed

Thanks to both. Greatly appreciated. Main reason is I'm beginning to think the sd card when kept in slot holder on my flip magnesium case is leaving a mark on the screen when closed.

I keep my Compact Flash cards in a cheap metal case I bought online for around $10, which you can still find them on eBay pretty easily. My main Compact Flash (256MB SanDisk) card stays in my x51v all the time. So far I haven't noticed a problems with the card reading/writing. I did just purchase a Seagate 8GB microdrive from Amazon.com; hopefully that won't give me any problems either. InAnyCase.com has some really great cases for Compact Flash and Secure Digital. Two flash card cases I been thinking of getting from them include their UFP Plus Multiple Format Media Case (photo) and CardCaboodle (Photo 1 & photo 2).

This is the CF case I use...

I also own one of those flash card to USB thumb drives. I bought one for my Sony camera. I think the brand is called MediaGear XtraDrive. It's a real cheap little thing. Works fine as a bulky thumb drive, but its a paint to install & remove the card.

Chris,

How do you keep the case from getting scratched up?? :P

I have the same model [EDIT: SD version], it allows the cards to shift and then fall out when you open the case.

Since then I have moved to Habuka cases (both a 4 and a 8). They hold onto the cards very well, there's a better latch, waterproof, and they cost a little less.

I've left my SD card in my X51v since day one.
I use SanDisk which comes in a nice little plastic case, I keep my spare in it. :approve:
