Question Data Backup and Built-in Storage.

Is there a way to get the Data Backup program on the x50 to backup the data and programs stored in BIS (and obviously restore it later)?

Cheers, Anders.

Yes. In the "Backup to:" window select BIS!!! This applies to WM 2003 SE. I don't know about WM5. You don't say which OS you have.

I think he wants to backup what's already in BIS. Not sure if Sprite will do that.

Sprite do that, and you can exclude some folders if you want too.

Your'e quite right. I misread his post. My apologies.

But I don't think he is talking about Sprite, which will do it if "Persistent Storage" is unchecked in "Exclusion Rules". But the built in Data Backup (which I think he means) won't.

Yes I want to backup data on BIS using Data Backup. Thanks for the information on Sprite. I was hoping Data Backup could do it. Sprite would need pre-installing on the device and is $30.

If I install programs in BIS, backup the PDA as normal and manually copy the contents of BIS somewhere; When I restore the backup and copy the program files back to BIS, would you expect installed programs to still work?

Yes. This should work OK. The normal backup will save the Registry and the Windows\Start Menu folder.

But I am not entirly sure why you need to do this. BIS is in non-volatile ROM and its contents will survive a hard reset or a complete loss of power.

To install a standard build on PDAs. This makes life just another step slower
