Lol, i hate when that happens! Seems like every time i get an idea, i see it on one of those tech blogs the next day... I look forward to comparing results!
PS: yay, someone else to do the walk-through for me! :p
Nifty. I did something similar for my PS2 with an old SNES figher stick and a $4 PS controller. Less external modding, I soldered the PS pad and SNES PCB (to make it easily reversible) into a HDD ribbon-cable, and the joystick buttons into a socket. The stick is a bucket, so both circuit boards and cables can fit inside the thing. I had a thought to do this with the BT stick, but didn't want to blow the $$ just to wreck the thing. Also, there was the problem with hacking the PS2 stick apart to accomodate the Ax, and I'm just not very good at cutting plastic.
It's really inspiring to read something like this and I guess I'm not the only who's held back from purchasing the chainpus bluetooth gamepad just cause it doesnt fit the X50v.
This mod doesnt just show thats it's possible but that it can be made without any big costs involved (apart from buying the chainpus gamepad ofcourse).

Sounds pretty cool, pocketbrain--I'd like to see that!
I did have a "v1.0" that consisted of simply making the original wider. I should post that, as it would be easier for people to replicate. Unfortunately all the bits from it are either part of the current model or at home--some 600 miles away... Perhaps over spring break...

Thanks for the info (and the compliments)!
That price makes me want to make something else! I'm thinking it would be more like a remote than a gamepad. Something compact i could keep in my jacket pocket, bicycle handlebars, or steering wheel to control music etc while the axim is in my backpack...
lol, cheap as it is, however, i still need a job first. I think I've got like $4.00 to my name :S
