Installing Applications on wm5

Sorry but i have had my axim x51v (wm5) for 2 months now and i just can't bring myself to install applications into the mess that bill wants me too. So i have pretty much only be using my ax to browse the web until i can get this problem resolved. i first tried cabinstal but the standard installer asking for just the devide or sd card appears. then i tried the mad programmers filedialogchanger i did everything people stated (i.e. the reg hacks, etc.) but this also still had the standard installer appearing. what have i missed i am going mad here, can someone please help my sanity.
PLEASE!!!

What do you exactly want to do? What did you mean by 'mess that bill wants me too'? The built-in CAB installer in WM5 is pretty good, it even installs apps on storage cards into a separate \Program Files directory, unlike in pre-WM5 OS'es - this is why I no longer use CabInstl/FDC on my x51v.

well i want to install most of my programs onto my sd card but i would like to put them in a directory of my own choice so i can keep my sd card tidy the way i like it. i read your post on many a different websites which was really helpful, as i am able to get it to work on my friends ppc which is running wm2003 just can't get it to work on mine. By the 'mess that bill wants'(bill gates that is sorry.) i mean having a \Programs File directory on my sd card with everything in i wish the CAB installer would just allow me to choose a complete directory path not just sd card or device.( i did download 1.6 the wm5 version of filedialogchanger) and did everything you said.

The standard installation mechanism WM5 takes care of putting everything under Program Files on storage cards too. It's not needed to use any third-party tools to do this.

Incidentally, CabInstl can't even override this under WM5, according to their homepage ( http://www.s-k-tools.com/util.html ):

"This program is an installer for CAB files and allows to install PPC programs into the specified folder instead of that by default created by the standard installer. If the folder is not specified, installation will be made into the default folder. If the developer of the program being installed has firmly set the allocation of files in a CAB file - it will be used during the installation.

NOTE: You can use CabInstl with WM2005 for show content of cab files, install and unpack it, BUT system location dialog is prefer and will used anyway."

so is there no way for me to say \sd card\application\ rather than the standard sd card\programs files\. if this i tue look like i will just have to live with it. just seems a little silly and a little irratating that wm5 wont allow me to install application where i want. i did try cabinstl before the reg hack and as you say i could only unpack when i clicked install the wm5 installer would pop up.

The only way I know is to use pocket mechanic to move the program after it is installed. I have used it on my x50v but it also supports WM5
