Why Upgrade?? If it works don’t break it!!

I can’t be more impressed with this Axim x50v Windows Mobile 2003 A04.

It works flawlessly with all my programs.

I have Wifi & BT enabled at the same time using Skype W/ Jabra BT350 head set.
I can access the Shared folders on my home PC.
I even use ActiveSinc wirelessly, and with Terminal Services Client I can upload download and print from my couch and not have to go downstairs and sit in front of the PC.

I sure read about a lot of troubles w/ Axim users upgrading and such but I’ve yet to read any good reasons to consider upgrading.

I have and run these Programs:

Licenced:
eWallet
Auto 3in1
Mapopolis Navagator
Holux GpsViewer
Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005
PocketCad, DWF Viewer (This program has a bug!)

Freeware:
Adobe Reader
OziExplorerCE
Skype Technologies (voice over IP)
Total Commander
Pocket TV

PHM Registry Editor
CabInstal v.1.04
Classic SMI 7.1N (Sep 30 2003)
- EMU48CE.EXE (HP48GX Emulator)
Valentin Iliescu Chess

Accessories
Covertec Black Leather Case
Holux GM-270 Ultra High Sensitivity CF GPS Receiver
Lexar Platinum 512MB 40x speed CF Card
Lexar Platinum 1GB 40x speed SD Card
Otterbox 2600 Environmental Case

persistent memory is too good a feature to pass up, especially if you don't have access to an external power source for long periods of time, while you use your axim extensively

I agree with the first post, wm2003 is a fine os. You should only upgrade if you need one of the features of the new os, such as the memory not being erased when no battery thingy.

I think WM5 is an improvement on WM2003SE. There are some usefull fixes, like persistent storage. The OS looks a little better (and being a skinner, looks are important), they added Powerpoint viewer.
WMP10 now has rating support which i kind-off missed.
Another big plus is the new built-in Windows Installer, which allows you to choose install location.

But in the end it all depends on the user. If you always have a power source to power up you axim, and don't need WMP10 rating system, Powerpoint viewer and other improvements, stick with WM2003SE.

"Why Upgrade?? If it works don’t break it!!"

If it ain't broken, don't fix it .

I personally think WM5 will be an overall much better OS than 2003se, but only after they update it much more (especially for the x50's). But at this point, I have never been happier and I am using 2003se A05. Runs perfectly and has never given me even a single problem. So for now 2003se is much better, but if they actually decide to dedicate themselves to updating WM5 it could definitely surpass it.

Count me as one of the very happy x50v, 2003se, A05 users. I have the WM5 upgrade disk, but I will wait until all (or at least most) of the bugs are worked out. My PDA is set up exactly the way I like it now and it is extremely stable. As much as I like to be bleeding edge, I just don't have the time right now to deal with all the WM5-related issues.

I too am very happy using 2003. I tried WM5 for a couple of weeks and rolled right back to 2003. Until it gets fixed, I'm staying put.

I am not even wasting my time going through the trouble of installing and fixing WM5.

i just rolled back, WM5 was giving me too much problems (with WM5, i had to "take care" of the x50v)

my x50v is dog slow right now though, maybe a couple resets would help it get back to normal speeds

My X50v is at A04. Why? because it works. But then DELL didn't come out with a WM5 upgrade or device before I bought another companies device with it. I haven't been that impressed with WM5 but it's great on Phone Edition devices.

Upgraded twice and downgraded once, I would have downgraded twice but WM5 somehow bricked my X50 and now I've become paranoid of that poorly coded O/S..

Do you have any plans to install the A05 update for X50v?

Hell, I'm still on A03, and loving life. Too lazy to reinstall all my stuff.

If you had A01 or A02 then I'd reccomend upgrading the Rom.

A03 certainly made my axim run much better.. A04/A05 didn't really make much of an obvious difference to me. Next time you're planning a complete wipe, then I'd do it.
