Been there, done that. Patched, tweaked, and compromised. Ended up going back to WM2003 after a couple of weeks. Quirky CF card loss, quirky ActiveSync issues, quirky loss of some apps and games. As others have said, what's the sense of upgrading if performance is degraded?

This is why I started the thread, a concise answer to the upgrade problems! I just upgraded (again), and applied what you recommended. It has been running right until now. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

WM5 is basically pretty stable right now on my PPC. I'm able to reduce the stress of filesys.exe a little with Shsmith's patch. However, my Axim still like to freeze temporarily when filsys.exe is running even with the patch. BUt when filsys.exe is not running, the WM5 is actually faster than SE. I don't use CF card so I don't have any of the disappearing, battery drain problem.

Overall, I like WM5 much better than SE due to:
1.Super fast AS
2. Faster connection with LAN
3. Better interface
4. Softkey
5. More RAM and storage for me.
6. New program installer
7. Better office softwares, IE
8. Minimo finally works!!!
9. Newer is better!! etc....

Now, the only problem is the filesys.exe. If it's fixed soon, I will be REALLY happy.
edit: I already have over 50-100 programs installed. All working perfectly. :)

I've upgraded back to Wm2003se, but I can tell you from when I was using 2005, my BT GPS worked just fine.

I decided enough was enough when my laptop was booting faster than my x50v. Performing a hard reset on it's own caused much stress. I want a device that I can turn on, that will work and be low maintenance. WM 2005 is not capable of meeting these requirements. I am sitting here restoring my x50v back to 2003. At least Dell have been decent enough to give us the files to do this.

I know usability is a very personal thing, but in my own opinion some of the changes made to WM2005 where not better. I hate the way you have to 'scroll' through the different views in the calendar. What is wrong with the buttons that are in the 2003 version? Well, I am back on 2003 and I have to say I am feeling happier all ready.

It was good while it lasted, but WM5 even with the tweaks is not as good as I expected. Everything was slow (even bubble breaker), and installing anything was a headacke. Right now I am downloading the WM2003SE reinstallation utility. Thanks anyway for the tips.

My axim with wm5, contact breeze, pocket breeze, pocket informant, a 1 gig sd card, and a 1 gig cf card has been up and stable for 4 or 5 months. No problem with on/off. No power drain. No crashes/hangs. Yada tada yada. Blah blah blah. I love it, and I work it hard and every day.

I switched back to 2003 SE 4 weeks ago or so and everything is working much better. All my apps run fine and the system isn't sluggish or slow. I don't miss any of WM 5's new features at all. I also went back to ActiveSync 3.8 which works fine for me also.
