I have checked several threads on workarounds for the upgraded X50v, but all seem to have different tips, patches, etc., so I was wondering if anybody has been able to get the X50v with WM5 to a stable point. I tried it when my upgrade CD arrived months ago, but I gave up after a few weeks.
I would specially like to know if there are working solutions for the sluggish performance, dissapearing cards, the axim not powering on and the battery drain problems.
I have had zero problems with mine for over a month, not even soft resets! I am using pocket diary, pocket plus (without any disk or memory monitoring plugins!) and a few otyher apps like whatever betaplayer is called now.
No registry hacks - keeping my today screen minimal would sem to be all I needed. I only have pocket diary on the main screen. I have also successfully ran it with no issues with only pocket breeze installed.
1-Turn off Error reporting
2-ActiveSync hack
3-Apply Patch_filesys V6

I wouldn't do it. I spent a lot of time trying to make it stable, and though it's close, it tends to have problems at the most inconvienent of times (like the BT stack crashing while navigating to a place I've never been).
I think that if you don't do too much with your x50v you should be fine. You'll notice people claiming success using statements like "minimal today screen plugins", "no meters/monitors", etc. And if that's fine for you then go for it! Personnally, I don't believe the latest and greatest OS should take me back to my WinCE days...
And then you have to ask yourself, what am I really gaining with the new user interface? I definately like it better, but does it really make me more productive? I decided that it didn't, even when everything worked, but I do like it better.
Ultimately for me, it just wasn't acceptable. I had to rollback to 2003SE. The worst part isn't the money I spent on WM5, it's the time I spent trying to make it work and I am very grateful to all the enthusiests who figured out all the workarounds and did get things moving forward; they did much more than Dell has!
I'll move back after a couple of patches have come out, if they ever do. I'm not convinced Dell is going to spend much time trying to fix this.

Without being disrespectful I have to ask, Are you serious? You have an x50v, upgraded to WM5, correct? I cannot believe that you have been using your Axim that long and not had any problems. The Axim doesn't work right even with no applications installed. You aren't having slowdowns, and haven't needed ANY resets?

Thanks for all the info. I may try upgrading for a second time, apply the workarounds and check how it goes. What worries me the most is the lack of bt support, as i am planning to buy a bt gps receiver, and i have read they don't work yet due to the lack of profiles.

If you do as SolSie suggests above, you should wind up with a unit that performs reasonably well most of the time, as long as you leave off some bells and whistles.
Still, I don't see any big advantage to WM5 over WM2003SE at this point in time for a PDA. For use in a smartphone, WM5 has some real advantages. As software is written specifically for WM5 it will become more important. At that point I'd suggest getting a unit that has native WM5.
If BT is important to you, I'd stick with what works - WM2003SE.
I agree with rsx --- put in the stuff solsie suggests and you should be fine. After 3 months fighting with WM5, I put in those changes and my X50v is now stable. It's not blazingly fast, but at least it's always there when I need it. (And so is the CF card!!!)
