Question Shutdown vs. standby

Okay, I learned shortly after I got my X51 that just pressing the power button doesn't turn off the Axim, it just puts it in standby mode. I have it set to power completely down if I hold the power button in. My question is how often should I completely power it down? It seems like it would need that every once in a while to reset everything, but I wonder how often it needs it. Or maybe it doesn't need it at all. Just curious.............

It doesn't 'need it' at all. The reset button on the back would do the equivalent if you are concerned about clearing the memory (although there are software solutions for that, too). The main reason for the complete power down is if you will be away from a power source for any period of time.

How much power is being drained in standby mode? Other than access time and memory clearing what are the advantages?

Under normal conditions, I would guess the PPC uses about 10% of it's battery per day on standby. However, frequently, the PPC 'wakes up' to check for upcoming appointments and alarms and in some cases, does not go back to sleep. When this happens, the battery is usually drained within a few hours. Leaving WiFi and BT on when the device is in sleep mode also uses more power and having the email set to check for new mail on a set schedule will cause it to wake up more frequently.

I know about the hack to fix the syncing every 5 minutes and the alarms, email and wifi are a non issue for me. Still, I am an ex palm user and would like to be able to shutdown completely on a regular basis. Is there anyway to speed up the boot process?

Is this shutdown thing a feature of x51 ? I have a x50 and I don't know of a way to shut it down. It's always in standby more, isn't it ?
