Hi,
I've tried Avant Go software and it did work well but the info. and articles that I had access to were just summaries that I could here on the radio. Is there any other software that will download the daily paper, or magazines with the full articles? The site has mentioned RSS feeds and they seem to be what does the job but how do I go from my axim in a cradle to making it an axim in a cradle with updated info from the web?
Any help would be appreciated. Bobolinx
For readers that are entirely Pocket PC based, the PPC looks after the transfer. Tbis means the RSS reader needs to be loaded, either as a standalone app, or, commonly, as a Today plugin. When your PPC is in the cradle it can borrow the PCs network connection to access the Internet. PocketRSS and Egress are examples.
The other way the download works is to have a piece resident on your PC that grabs the data, and then transfers it to your PPC when you dock it. Avantgo and Mobipocket work this way.
Thanx for responding so quickly. So the next step is to investigate your suggestions to see if they are compatable with the newspapers/magazines that I'm interested in... such as the NYtimes? Do some of these services have subscriptions? I think I get the idea... Do I log on to the internet, let the active sync do its job of finding the sites as in the first example &/or log specifically onto sites and then let the active sync work? Do you all recommend one over the other for a newbie nontech-type person? Do you recommend one type of feed over another for its broad range of material? Yes... alot of questions but I know of no one else who even uses a PPC to ask. Thank you. Bobolinx

Dear Moderator,
Sorry to double post, I got a phone call and didn't realize that the previous msg. was sent. Please delete one, if possible thank you, bobolinx
I use pRSSreader by David Andrs. (do a search)
Think SolSie suggested it.
It works well.
I no longer use Avant Go.
I was thinking the same thing till today, when I launch pRSSreader and it shows no channels. All of the cache files are still there but the mychannels.opml (or whatever) is blank. I guess I should have backed that up, but this still pretty bad. Now I have to type all of those URLs in again - PITA!!!!

I am using pRSSReader and NewsPanel (Beta at Marsware.net)

Yea, I've had the same thing happen to me too. It's still a bit quirky.
I've learned that you can export your channels and it's a good idea to backup
that export file so if it happens again you can just import it.
Same thing with your favorites on the Dell GPS Navteq software.
If you reload maps, it blows away your favorites unless you backup the dat fiel that stores them. Learn all this the hard way!
I use NewsBreak, which can import and export OMPL, just like my live bookmarks in FireFox can, so I can have the same RSS feeds on both my PC and my PDA and have backups of them as well.

I am trying to decide which RSS program to use, I have out grown prss reader. I have pretty much narrowed it down to Pocket RSS and Egress. I really like Pocket RSS today screen with Pocket Breeze. dpad navigation while running the program is kind of a bad design because you cant scroll the page down. Egress seems to be a bit more finished but is kind of a hassle to navigate to different specific channels. Has anyone had any problems with pocket rss auto reloading, also after download it does not seem to want to go back to the current view on the today screen, and also does not auto refresh the today screen view. dpad navigation on the today screen is great with pocket rss. Other than the listed problems I really like pocket Rss but egress seems to handle images and image viewing a bit better. It is also easier to navigate the main program with the dpad. What is your experience with the two, and which do you recommend? Thank you
