Freeing up "lost" memory.....

When I do a soft reset, I have:

Total - 49.47
In use - 18.39
Free - 31.08

After a few hours of use I have:

Total - 49.47
In use - 21.13
Free - 28.34

There are no other programs running at this point so this is just ram that is not freed up once programs have ended. Is there a way to get this 3 meg back without having to SR?

Aside from having to react to the sloppy programming practices that lead to this situation, what is wrong with a soft reset?

1. There are programs that free up some memory. I use memmaid (not free) and it seems to routinely free up about 1 mg after working for a while. It also tells me that soem programs are in use and cannot free up the memory. I'm assuming that it is not very aggressive, therefore I've never "broken" anything when I've done this. Other programs such as sktools may free up more memory, but seem to require more caution on the user's part.

2. Except for bragging rights on how seldom you soft reset, I also don't have a problem with the soft reset. After all, I turn most of my computers off and let them bootup everyday. Soft reset is our only option on the ppc. just my .02.

SKTools released an update in the past few days that has a "Free RAM" option.

I tried this utility for a while (2days). I works but sometime it freezes my x51v and made me to SR :).

My Voice Command takes up 4-5 MB of RAM permanently.

A soft reset is just like rebooting your PC.It is actually good for you to do it every so often.I do a soft reset about one a week just for the heck of it.

That's only when we have time and want to do one. If we're in the middle of something important and an error forcing you to soft reset pops up, thats the your worse enemy.
