Sync GMail as a seperate messenging account (a new twist on the age old question)

Okay... I've got an axim x51v and a gMail account. I've been able to set up my messenging software such that I can send/receive from my gMail account easily. I can do it via WiFi or it will work while in the cradle and using the activesync connection. What it DOES NOT do is automatically send/receive to my gMail account during a normal sync. Is there any way to automate this process?

FWIW, my primary email account is a corporate exchange server that I'm syncing with just fine. I have tried the workaround where I create a seperate folder and then use outlook rules to send my gMail account email to that folder after it is accessed w/ POP through Outlook on my desktop. Functionally, this accomplishes what I'm after but it is a bit clumsy and won't display on my PocketBreeze today screen. Ideally, I would like a way to keep the gMail account as a seperate account on my axim and just have that account know to send/receive when I dock it. Can anyone help with this?
