Can't change today theme on newly restored WM5 x50v
Hi everyone,
After a recovering from a hard-reset using Sunnysoft's backup manager, I'm unable to change the Today theme. No matter which them I select under Settings-Todays, I always got stuck with the default WM5 theme. Help!!
Regards,
Patrick

After mucking around in the registry I have the same problem and am too lazy to perform a hard reset at the moment to fix it. A work around I am using is to rename a tsk file to cab and then double click on it. Doesn't work perfectly but you should be able to display the background you want doing this.

hello
Thank you for replying. However, I'm unable to change the file format. Also, do you know what key in registry causes this problem?
Again, thanks.

I am not certain which registry entry I changed borked this.
You don't need to change the file format, a tsk file is a cab file with a different extension, all you have to do is change the name of the file from "Whatever.tsk" to "Whatever.cab" and then double click on it. If you are unable to do this on your PPC (resco works fine for this) then you could do it from the Windows explore as long as you have it set to show extensions.

If it said it installed successfully but didn't change the today screen try a soft reset and I think that should fix it.

Try it again but this time tell it to install to an SD card and see if that makes any difference, if it works it will still install to the correct place since the cab file tells it to install into the windows folder.

Patrick, I have struggled with Sunnysoft a few times as well. I haven't had my theme locked, but every time I restore the theme looks "funny" with fuzzy bars down the side. I could always clear it by toggling between the standard theme and the dell theme. Maybe one of the theme .bmp or .gif files in your \windows directory is blocking the new theme from loading.
Sunnysoft restore is not so much a "restore" as a "merge" over the top of where you were before. Make sure you do a hard reset to clear as much data as possible before you start the restore. And if you are like me, uncheck the "database" and "pim" part of the restore or you will end up hosing your activesync.
The thing that bugged me was I like to reorganize the start menu, but after a Sunnysoft restore, I get my reorganized icons okay, but all the original ones are back as well--the restore didn't remove them to make the restored machine match what was backed up.
Still, Sunnysoft is better than nothing. I sure miss how quick and easy Sprite backup was back on wm2003. I could practically hard reset and do a full restore in the time it takes wm5 to do a soft reset without restoring anything...

That's EXACTLY what happened with me!! However, when I tried to toggle between the standard theme and the dell theme I just got "stucked with the standard theme. I'm also thinking about the bmp file too. I know there is a file called tdwater.bmp or something similar (can't remember the exact name now) under Windows in SE that controls what shows up for the today theme. I will look into it.... Thanks!
BTW, did you try Sprite Beta for WM5? It doesn't work on my x50v though...(the built-in won't work either)
