right, i know but the little icon on the top bar is just always there and very handy. Also, it puts icons on the top bar to show you what is open too without having to do a dropdown in most cases. Just seems handier to me. tried them both.

I'm confused. I thought vBar had the memory indicator and that MB did not. Does your MB have a memory indicator?

I am running MB v2.0 (build 51023) on my X51v with WM2005 and A06 and mine does not appear to have any memory indicator option...

Magic Bar Lag and Slow Down

I installed Magic Bar Today using WM5 on x51v and it only freezes up and causes the lag and when I modify the internet settings. Anybody know why this is? When I open the internet settings all the buttons stop working and I get the lag and have to do a soft reset to restore functionality. Thanks.

I do know that my idle speed with mp3 playback + magicbutton is 208.
While without magicbutton, idle speed is 104.
And this translates to a noticeable increase in battery life over a day's charge.

Wow, TCPMP is much better for playing mp3s....

Sorry for answering my own question here, but TCPMP lets my cpu go down to 104MHz, whereas PocketMusic pegs it at 312. The next question become how the heck is PocketMusic wasting so much CPU power?

Fair Comparison

Ok here is the rundown.

I've only ever used MagicButton for closing apps, then I switched to Vbar, so I can speak to the issue of a fair comparision. I'm running an x51v with WM5 A06.

MagicButton:

Pro's:
-Had a nice "taskbar" option that showed open programs in the top bar of the Axim display.
-It's free.

Con's:
-Laggy (Didnt notice it was at all till I installed Vbar).
-It sometimes would freeze my axim up causing me to do soft resets (Especially when changing wifi/internet settings).
-Sometimes it would just plain disappear/stop running.
-Sometimes would interfere with alerts and notifications.

Vbar:

Pro's:
-Extremely quick and a VERY small memory footprint (21k if I remember right).
-Has a great little battery and memory indicator that sits right next to the X button (and it seems to display correct information without any battery drain).
-Has not caused any system lock ups (yet). It's free!

Con's:
-Doesn't have the "taskbar" showing active programs, but you can access active programs via a drop down box from the X button.
-I can't seem to change the background color of the X button area even though I have tried every option available (I'm running a custom skin and Im pretty sure this is the conflict. I had the same conflict with Magicbutton). It should be noted that Vbar does offer the options of changing the background color.

As far as I'm concerned I'm going to stick with Vbar. It's quick, cheap (free), and feature packed.

You can get Vbar here: http://www.vieka.com/vbar.htm

You can get MagicButton here: http://www.download.com/Magic-Button...=uo&tag=button

They're both free. Try em' out for yourself and decide.

(As a side note I found a sometimes fix for the Magicbutton freezing my axim screen. I would switch from Vertical to Landscape display mode, then back and then Magicbutton would let me close app.)

I looked into vBar in the past (I was "simplifying" my axim and was getting away from Wisbar). As I recall, there are some issues of compatibility between vBar and Sprite back-up. Is that still the case?

For those of you thinking your axim has freezed when in the wifi settings and using magicbutton, I think it's something else. With magicbutton running and in the wifi settings screen, I can't click the x/ok button on the upper right corner of the screen. So I can't leave the program conventionally and it 'looks' like it's frozen. But I think it's just because magicbutton is somehow not passing your x/ok taps to the wifi settings program.

If you close magicbutton, then you can click the x/ok. Another workaround is to map a hardware button for x/ok and that will work as well. Yes, it's annoying. I was hoping to try vbar to see if it would not have this problem but I just read someone having the same issue with vbar and the wifi settings screen. So I'm not sure if it's worth the switch, but since both are free, I'll just try it out.

I have been using Magic Button since upgrading to ROM A06 and applying the 'Fake Server Trick' in late December last year. It works great for me and I have not had any of the freezing listed here. I am using Version 2.0 (build 51023). IMHO its a great free application and far better than the built in Dell one.
