allow activesync to choose install location

After many hours of research I've finally decided on buying the axim x51v. It seems it's the most feature-packed and future proof device. I was happy that I found this site during the research and found many frendly owners providing lots of usefull tip which also boosted my confidence of buying the device.

Anyways, I've searched though many posts but could find a definite solution. I know that some programs created for ppc allowing you to pick install locations and some don't. With cab installer I was able to get around with it. However, I do have some .exe file which can only be installed through activesync and it always installs to the BIS. I checked the option (add/remove program) The"install to default location" is greyed out (unchecked). I am using ActiveSync 4.1 btw. Is there a way to make the ActiveSync to prompt install location for every single install process?

Welcome to the site. I'm not sure if it can be done with the X51V. I've done it with X50V WM2003SE. Read the 7th post in this thread

I would back up the registry BEFORE trying. As I said I'm not sure about the V51V.

Can you direct it to a specific folder on an SD or Cf card?

It asks which device to install on Main Mem, SD, or CF the folder is controlled by the installing Application. It's not like the PC side.
BTW - install on the CF and SD with care, some apps (usually today plugins)
won't run from there.
