Moving permanently, will it still work?

Hello all,

I am about to buy the X51v in Hong Kong but I will be moving to Canada soon, so I was wondering if the warrenty will be transferable so I can still benefit it while being in Canada. You might ask "why not buy it when you are in Canada?" But since Dell HK is having a promo, I save about CAD 200 on purchase. I have send an email to Dell but I just don't understand what the rep is saying.

"Dear Sam,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

I have looked at your request, if you purchased a unit in Hong Kong you can can get service only in Hong Kong. You will need to contact Parts and Service for any other warranty questions at 1-866-440-3355. The link for unit location transfer is the one you want and it does pretrain to Axims as well."

So is the warrenty transferable? What does the word pretrain mean? There is no such word in the dictionary...

Also is the voltage for the AC adapter that comes with the package a dual voltage one? 110V - 240V?

Thanks all
Sam

Sounds like India tech support. Personally, I'd go for it to save the money. I think most people never have to send it in, especially if you have a little time to mess with it before you move. Just my thought.

"If you purchased a unit in Hong Kong you can can get service only in Hong Kong" means if you've a warranty issue (e.g. inverted screen), you'll have to send it back to HK for service.

"You will need to contact Parts and Service for any other warranty questions at 1-866-440-3355". This is a toll free # in Canada if you've QUESTIONS, it doesn't say you can get service.

I'm quite positive that "pretrain" is a typo error. Gramatically, "pertain" is the proper word. It means "applies to".

I'd suggest that you email/contact Dell directly with regards to your concerns posted here.

I bought my X51V in Canada. The voltage for my AC adapter is 110 - 240V 50-60 Hz, but I can ONLY plug in into any North American outlet. You unit will fit Asian/European electrical outlet.

I'd cancel the order, but that's only my opinion.

Good luck.

but what does this form do? http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topi...=19&l=en&s=dhs

the electrical plug is the least of my worries as I have adapters that will make it fit as long as it has the correct voltage

instead of an adapter, you can just buy a replacement short cable for the charger (it has the cable going to the cradle and a short cable going to the wall that is removable)

Thanks. I have just check the owner's manual on Dell's site it says the specs of the AC adapter is 110 - 240V 50-60 Hz so it should work. If it doesnt I will go for mrp04's suggestioin.

So right now, my worries are if the warrenty is transferable from HK to Canada like the form says

I think warranty is trasnferable only applies to person to person, not location. But I havent read any forms or manuals so Im not sure.

In general, you can transfer warranties from country to country; I had a latop transferred from the US to Canada. However, this may not apply to Axims as per this thread:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=115226

And I agree with cng; you can certainly get a better deal in Canada if are willing to wait. You also wouldn't have to worry about warranties and getting plug adapters.

Call Dell tech support and complain yourself blue. Eventually, they will give in and allow you to transfer. Also, as an alternative, try to order your X51V from Canada and have it shipped to HK. You might need to use a go-between.

There's no way Dell Canada will ship to HK, but you still call to complain about the transfer! :p

i think there is a page for customers to "update your warranty" which updates your address... so that might be a way to "cheat" just look for it....
