Applications not seeing full directory depth.

Hi everybody! ! I've got an X51v running A01 through AS4.1.

My problem is I can't get programs like Word and Excel to see past the first folder layer! If I have a word document buried under two or three levels of folders on an SD card, Word doesn't see it. If I transfer it to a position above all folders, it can see it.

What the hell?

Haha any help would be greatly appreciated, and yes I do have "All Folders" selected in the opener. Please tell me it is just one button I'm not pressing, because (For various default application reasons) I can't open the files through File Explorer.

Also, does anyone have a way of toggling which program opens a file type in file explorer? E.g switch from viewer to Word to open a .doc. I have tried myExtensions and it hasn't worked too well.

Annoyingly, as I've just discovered, Microsoft decided to give Word it's own even-suckier-than-the-standard file selection tool and this next tip won't help there, but it is good for more sensible applications that try to work in a consistant manner.

The inbuilt file selection tool is useless if you want to actually find a specific file that is buried a couple of directories into the filesystem. One answer is a couple of programs from this site:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconVa...upertino/2039/

Filedlchg and gsgetfile are what you need, though I've attached a zip file with the necessary .dll files. Just drop the .dll files into the \Windows directory on your device, soft-reset, then in Settings -> System will be a new Control called "File Dialog Changer." Just go in and enable it and Voila, the standard file dialog is infinitely more useable. (At least for third party programs like PocketNotepad and I assume Word replacements like Textmaker)

I tryed this software but I'm not sure if it does what Jerry asked for. I would like to be able to select the word or phatpad file list and have all the appropriate files displayed from all folders and not just the first layer in My Documents. Is there a hack for this?

I think you need to look at Textmaker or ClearVue as alternatives to the inferior Microsoft Windows Mobile offerings.

Yes I think you may be right. I did a search in the Aximsite and came up with naught. I also emailed Phatware and they said it can't be done. I am waiting for the final textmaker version to be released and will go for that.

I don't have Phatpad or textmaker, but for a lot of applications the tool I posted allows you to navigate through your PPC in the same manner as your PC. Just press the "Up" button at the bottom of the screen after setting it up to change the file dialog and your whole PPC becomes available to pick any particular file.

Sorry if it doesn't work for Phatpad, but any program that uses the standard file dialog, and not their own equally sucky alternative, should work properly.

I know it doesn't do what Jerry wanted, which was why I put a warning at the top of my earlier post, Word and Excel use some stupid file dialog of their own creation, just to be completely against any form of consistancy or usefulness of common system objects....
