I tried everything in this thread and still couldn't get my reminders to work. Finally I re-installed alarmToday, which I had used before but ended up uninstalling. Now my reminders work again. It has a "WM5 Optimization" setting in the options, but my reminders started working again even without them enabled.

Icon14 Many thanks...

My reminders mysteriously stopped working as described in this thread.
Last night I followed the suggested fix using MemMaid and so far it's working fine. If it continues working this thread will have saved me a lot of hassle.
Thanks for the good work and taking the time to post this. :approve:

Is their a definitive list for what should be left in the notification section in memaid ?

Should you delete all duplicates and anything that doesnt have a direct name and reference to a program.

I have never really taken the time to tinker with the registry on PC PPC's

I had severe intermittent problems, which caused me about a dozen HRs, and I almost replaced my X51V.

Cleaning up the notification queue regularly is one possible solution.

Another issue could be Today plugins.

I made about a dozen HRs and spent countless hours researching for solutions, including many hours with Dell support.

After much trial and error, and after cleaning up the notification queue, I found that in my case the Resco Explorer Today plugin causes system freezes, not always related to meeting reminders popups.

Many times, after a meeting reminder would popup, the system would freeze, either just after I dismissed the reminder, or even without having dismissed it (say when I had the X51V in my pocket and didn't hear the alarm sound).

Other times, the system would freeze just like that, without any reminder at all, and without my having performed any action at all, or without having used any software.

The problem was intermittent. The X51V would work well for a couple of days without any problem, then freeze up several times a day.

My system is well maintained. I use several apps that I purchased (MemMaid, SKTools) and I've tried several demo versions of Pocket Mechanic (although this app has caused me several problems which made me do HRs).

So I began researching the various possibilities (there's another thread by MeSue, where I have detailed my efforts).

Bottom line, it seems that the culprit was the Today plugin of Resco Explorer (an excellent app, by the way). It didn't matter whether the app (all of the Resco components) were installed to a CF card (see my post #41 in this thread) or to memory.

Two days ago I unchecked the Today plugin (Start-Settings-Today-Items, uncheck) and everything has been well since.

If this persists, I'll completely remove the Today plugin, and find another alternative.

I'd also like to point out that my system has been far more responsive since I disabled the Today plugin.

memmaid didn't work for me unfortunately. Reminders still don't remind reliably.

It's pretty rubbish that such a core function of the PDA doesn't work.

Peejay,
I have finally (I think) gone through a process that works for me. Here are some observations: (I have a Cingular 8125, by the way):

Using Memmaid, here's what I do:

1) remove dups
2) select blank entries and remove
3) remove all alarms from days previous to today (I have found the last two times in the last 30 days--yes, twice in the last month when I've checked memmaid I had task and calendar items from the previous day, essentially making my queue get 'stuck')
4) IMPORTANT: TURN THE DEVICE COMPLETELY OFF, THEN ON AGAIN SO IT HAS TO GO THROUGH ITS COMPLETE BOOTUP PROCESS. I've found soft resetting doesn't do anything for me. The entries get put back in. At one point, I had 24 or so blank entries which, I believe, get put in the queue with each soft reset (one blank entry for each soft reset). I've removed blank items, and soft reset and they'd be back there.

Once I've powered back on after powering my PDA phone COMPLETELY off, I see all my alarms fire for today and I smile.

NOTE: I had a Dell Axim x50v before this so I don't remember how to completely power off (by the above comment I don't mean pressing the power button off and on again-I mean a complete shut down and reboot).

I hope this helps. It worked for me like a charm the past 3 times I've had to do it.

Hopefully I've been clear here, so just repost if you have questions.

-Marc

Thanks, that is very clear. I'll give it a go, once I've figured out how to turn the thing completely off (any help? I'm new to the Axim).

I'm a bit sceptical, though - I don't think soft resetting is putting in any blank entries. But I'll give it a try!

You know, my axim had been working pretty well for the past 5 months. All of a sudden, today, it stopped doing reminders again. Then, I used memmaid, and I couldn't find any dups or blank reminders.

So, just for the hell of it, I decided to soft reset the device. Right after the soft reset, I went into memmaid and saw 5 or 6 blanks, in addition to some reminders from the past three days. Wierd, they weren't there before the soft reset.

Anyhow, I did that and all of sudden the reminders are back again. I don't know, but give the "reset/turn off & on unit" a try and then use memmaid. I hope things work out for you.

Good Luck:approve:

I have a new hypthosis, not yet properly tested...

I cleared out rogue reminders, soft reset, cleared out a couple of new blank ones(!), and then successfully got a run of ten reminders to work correctly. This was only with Magic Button and Pocket Informant running.

However I normally have more than that running at the same time. Specifically TextMaker 2006 (a huge program), normally with several documents open (some of also large). I'll often have other things running as well, eg File Explorer, Excel etc.

Anyway, I opened TextMaker and and one large document, and tried the reminders again. Nothing.

Coincidence? Or does the Axim fail to wake up because it's running a seriously large application?? (NB I'm a big believer in coincidence.)

I think I've read somewhere here on these boards about reminders not waking the unit up because of a time out or something. Does that ring any bells?

You know, I thought the same thing for a while. Specifically, my axim would stop giving me reminder's after I installed coreplayer/betaplayer/tcpmp. Then, when I actually gave up on getting my reminders back, I hard-reset the device. Installed everything again, and I had reminders for the next 5 months or so.

In other words, it's hard to say if there is really a link between programs installed/being used simultaneously causing reminders to malfunction. However, I would still try to shut down progams you're not using just to see if your theory works out.

Keep us posted and good luck :approve:

I still haven't done a proper test, but here's another thing which seems to support it - the two reminders which failed to go off when TextMaker was running both triggered immediately when I shut down TextMaker.

But I'm not sure it's about failing to wake up, because when I turn on the Axim, the reminders didn't trigger - until I shut down TextMaker.

Interesting...

Hmmm...Almost sounds like textmaker might be one of the sources of your problem. I was wondering what kind of axim you have. It doesn't say underneath your icon. If you have an X50v or X51v, you wouldn't need textmaker right. I like using the word that's already with my x51v. If possible, I would try and uninstall or not use the program that was causing problems.

So, are you reminders totally working again? Or do they just not work when textmaker's on?

I think I'm on to something. I've done some more tests, and in every case the reminders worked when TextMaker wasn't running, and in every case they didn't when it was. The reminders either triggered only when I turned on the Axim, or when I shut down TextMaker.

So, it's either a problem with TextMaker, or it's a problem when running "big" software. Can someone else who is having problems with reminders test out that theory? That is, see if reminders work when there's little or no software running, and don't work when some big software is running?

In the meantime, I'll post on the TextMaker forum!

(Incidentally, I'm going to keep using TextMaker... Word Mobile doesn't do what I need it to do, so I'd prefer to do without reminders...)

(By the way, for info, I've an Axim x51v, WM5.)

Well, it looks like you're on to something. It's too bad that word doesn't do what you want it to. But hey, as long as you've nailed the problem. Hopefully, you can find more help in the textmaker forms :approve:

Good Luck!
