Forgot to say that for the reminders not to work, both TextMaker and a biggish document (20k) words have to be open. I still apparently have 18Mb of memory free, though.
But, given that others have had problems, I'm not sure that it's a TextMaker problem. I suspect it's a "running big software" problem. But we need some other people to test that!

That's sad news. I though the X50 series was powerful enogh to handle several "big" programs running at the same time. But hey, no one or thing is perfect. Honestly, I'm just glad to keep my reminders going at the moment. At least I know I can't leave several Biggies on at the same time.
Here's something I just posted on the TextMaker forum...
This gets stranger.
I've discovered that the reminders only fail to trigger if TextMaker has a large document open AND selected. If there's a large document open in TextMaker, but it isn't the document that being looked at at the moment, then the alarms do trigger.
This makes me wonder a bit more if this is a problem being caused by TextMaker... I also did another test where I opened loads of applications (the standard ones on WM5, plus Pocket Informant and Acrobat Reader, and this used almost as memory as TM, but didn't cause any problems for reminders. I don't have any other big applications to test.
Then again, I do now have a bit of a work around - never turn off my unit with a large document being the selected one within TextMaker!
This is terrible! This thread was started in February and I have a new X51 which still exhibits the same problem. It has just been replaced by Dell with another one (a refurb unfortunately) and the problem is still there even though it has the latest A12 software release.
I can see how MemMaid is able to clear this problem but surely the more relevant question is how do all those corrupted entries get there in the first place? And if they screw things up so much how come there is no "standard" option within WM5 to fix them?
I've had my Axim for a little while now. It was my Christmas present to myself last year. I've got the X50 and I love it. But the tasks and calandar appointments would not do what I wanted them to do.
At the recommendation of this thread, I downloaded the free trial of that MemMaid program and found all the DUPLICATE entries and deleted all of them. I left all of the ones that I didn't recognize, deleted all the CALANDAR entries, and all of the blank entries.
Now, each calandar event and each alarm reminder beeps at me loud and clear.
Quoting someone from a few months ago - thank you for saving my sanity.
I don't even have an AXIM - but an iPAQ which I hate and still miss my old stolen Palm which never gave me any trouble.
The information in this thread was so helpful, and now for the past 15 minutes, the reminders and alarms are working as they should. I hope it stays this way.
In my language there's a proverb, it translates to something like "a problem shared by many others, is a fool's comfort". What can I say, it's just the opposite here - if it were not for all of you who had the misfortune of coming by this problem - then mine would not have been solved.
T H A N K S !

I'm going to have go find time to read through this again, but my reminders went away again. Had to do a hard reset last time. Not really looking do that again. For now I'll use my new (to me) Treo 600.
Hard reset, MemMaid, SKTools all of the above = still no reminders.
Continued to explore trial software previously installed then removed (I had been trying to get repeating alarms).
VOILA -
alarmToday - even trial installation (which had expired) resurrected my alarm notifications!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, my reminders stopped working again the other day. I soft reset my Axim and used Memmaid to find that a birthday was in the backlog. Then, I thought back to my Axim last stopped doing reminders. I'm pretty sure it was on my last friend's birthday.
In other words, I think (in my case at least) that the yearly type of reminder, like an anniversary or birthday, tends to get stuck in the backlog, causing the reminder malfunction to activate.
As always, if the reminders don't work and you use memmaid without a soft reset, I'm never able to see the reminder or duplicate that caused the mess. But if you soft reset your axim and take another look, you should be able to see the reminder(s) that are the culprit.
I hope this may be of some help to those of you out there who are not sure what is causing your reminders to malfunction. As of the moment, memmaid alone seems to be enough to fix them in my case:approve:
I had a different solution, coming from Vancouver, I had changed the Clock home region to GMT +8.... when I was late for an appointment the other day, I started testing my x51v and found that no appointment alarms went off. So, in desperation, i changed my time region back to vancouver and the dialog said, Warning, appointment times will change to match the new region. My alarms worked again! I changed back again to Taipei time and they continued to work. Now, if only I can get the alarm wav file to play without stuttering...
Deja vu! This issue started with wm2003, seems to have been fixed under wm2003se, but came back in wm5. What is up with this? It's nonsense. Anyhow, it was a tough issue to solve in wm2003. The only thing that licked it for me was AlarmToday. http://www.pocketmax.net/alarmToday.html . It's simply the best fix for this problem. You can also try the reg tweaks program tweaks2k2, which has a number of alarm fixes. All of these other fixes suggested didn't work for me including the all of the free little reg hacks out there. Try the AlarmToday trial and if it works, it's only a $10 program. Besides its fix, it's a very cool program. Actually, one of the most useful around.

Could it be device specific? I've been using calendar and tasks notification on my ipaq h4150 running 2003 for three years now and never have it failed me since I got it.
It could be device specific. But the 2003 bug was widely reported. There's a little program to remove bum notifications. It was designed for wm2003, but it may be compatible with wm5. I would do a backup before trying it. It has a function to clear notifications at startup. Please report back to the forum if you find that it works.
