X51v - I fixed my reminders !!! (no uninstall, no resets)

I've been reading this forum everyday and got lots of great tips and solution to my questions. I figured I'd share something with everyone else and hope it will be a great help to some.

Problem: Only the appointment and task notification not working.

I was just browsing the site and found lots of people having this problem so I figured I'd test it out (i've never used this function before) To my surprise, it doesn't work. I've enabled all the sound, notification and LED flash under setting. Set up different tasks and appointments and I don't get any sound and popups. I've tried the reset sound level, changing alarm sound clips and none of those helped. Just want to mention, all other notification works (wifi, activesync, etc)

Solution:
I remember under memmaid there is a section for notification queue and I figured to see what's going on.

First, in the queue list, I've found 7 duplicat entries. (may be these are the ones that I set up for testing and never activated even the time has past) I removed all those.

Second, I also see some notifications (7 of them) labled as "task" but the due day is on Jan. 01 /4017 !!! I've no idea how that got in there. I removed those as well.

Next I found 2 blank entries (no name) and if you click on them, in the info box it'll display 2 lines of strange strings. (looks like those registery folder you find in windows with very long time, it looks like this: {ab234gbkjadsf-afbweb} I don't know what those were and since it doesn't even have a name i doubt it is used by anything else so I deleted those as well. (i was ready for a hard reset so don't care much if I screw things up)

After cleaned up the queue list I now only have the default things left such as repllog.exe calnot.exe, etc.

My alarm for both calendar and tasks started working immediately after I've done the above. So far I've tried setting up more than 20 appoints and tasks and i've gotten the popup and sound alarm for all of them.

Hope this can help those who's having the problem.

What model & OS are you using? Most of the users here seem to have this trouble on an X51v with WM5.

Thanks! I was thinking I was going to need to do a hard reset to fix it.
I kept missing things since my PPC wasn't alerting me.

Memaid is pretty neat software. Haven't ever used it before.

Exclamation Caution to new memmaid users

For those who've never used Memmaid before (like me before this afternoon) DON'T DELETE ALL THE NOTIFICATIONS... Just duplicates and ones like Silvscorp mentioned at the top of the thread. Something I deleted caused my activesync to stop working. I only found one mention of a solution to this problem, which was "hard-reset and reinstall". I took advantage of this forced reset to upgrade from A01 to A06 so it wasn't a total loss.

Is anyone aware of what exactly got deleted and if there is a way to fix the problem without a hard reset?

I just want to add some more info I found out regarding this alarm/notification settings. Apparently there is a bug in this function. It's just ironic that MS screwd up one of the native functions for a PDA.

Anywyas, I am not sure if this applies to all the PDAs running wm5 but pretty sure most x51v have this problem since I"ve tested it on 3 different units.

Under setting --> "sounds & notifications" and highlight the "Reminders".
Now you'll see 4 sections: "play sound", "repeat", "display message on screen" and "flash light for"

For the "Play sound", it will play whatever sound file you choose.

For the "Display message on screen", no matter you check it or not, it will always display the notification msg. At least there is no way to disable that through the setting.

For the "Repeat", obviously the alert will sound continiously with a long interval. So far this is working as it should. But if you have both "Repeat" and "LED flash" checked, when the alarm goes off, the LED won't be flashing any more. Basically If you want the LED to flash, you have to disable the "Repeat" function.

Hope this will solve some of your's puzzle. If your alarm is not working then read my 1st post.

Delete the blank ones as well as instructed by OP. That worked for me.

Now, I don't know if I should purchase MemMaid since I don't see I would use any other features. I thought I could use this to reclaim the "Lost Memory", but I don't see it could. Maybe I am wrong. Any comments on this?

As I said, delete all the non-system notification.

1st, check and delete just the duplicates using MemMaid.
2nd, check and delete all the blank ones. I found out that these blank entries are created by some notifications and they would disappear again after the notification is removed/expired.

You should only see some update, calnot, notifications in the queue on a normal base. If you are not sure just click on each notification and see the information displayed below.

I got MemMaid mainly for the reclaiming "lost memory". Right after I quit a program I'll see the RAM meter rise up by 1 or 2 meg instantly. I think MemMaid does that in the background and you can't really controll it in anyway. It's a good feature but I think it can do better job. Some times after using many application my memory would drop to 17-19mb and it will never come back to 20mb unless I do a reset. However, I don't see a hidner in the performance and even 15mb of ram free is still more then enough for you to handle most things. (when I had WM10 and tcpmp both playing video in the background I'll see ram dropping to 5.2mb)

Do you know if the notification is stored in txt files or in registry? Can I manually delete those blank and duplicate notifications?

I am not quite sure while file the notification is located but pretty sure it's not in registery. In registery there is a place that defines differnt types of notification and that's about it.

I really recommand you to use MemMaid to clean out the duplicates and delete the blank ones. The system notifications will not have duplicates and will always have a name. (some might have the same name but they are actually being triggered by different event) If you select it and it will show the detail info as what this notification will do.

If you delete any system notification then you might screw up the Active Sync. (again, with MemMaid you can add an event as well. If you do make a mistake then you can add it back on)
