AS 4.1 won't install, 3.8 wont connect. Rom A01. Help!!!

I've been tracking my x51v through UPS for about a week.

Not even an hour ago, it arrived.

I tried to intatll ActiveSync 4.1, but it said I need Service Pack 2 for XP. After getting to the end of the installation of SP2, it says my serial number isn't legit, which it probably isn't.

So ActiveSync 4.1 is out of the question. I installed 3.8, but it won't see the Axim. The Dell x51v "New Hardware" shows up when plugging it in, but no drivers help hook it up, and ActiveSync doesn't do anything but search, fail, search, fail, etc. All Firewalls are totaly off, BTW.
Am I missing something obvious?

Actually, do I realy need ActiveSync?

Could I just put the A06 update on my CF card, run it from there, and take any other program I want to and install it the same way?
Is ActiveSync more headache than it's worth?

Or do I need to get SP2 properly.

Sorry you have no choice you must have AS 4.1.

You'll need AS 4.0 or later (currently 4.1) to sync and install most programs and updates for WM5 devices.

Some programs give you a cab and let you install on the device, but there are a lot that don't.

I'm leaving it with that since I don't want to help piracy and am only willing to point out the benefits of having AS 4.1.

This is very strange...i have winxp pro SP1 on my machine and AS 4.1 installed right away ...can u make sure u have admin rights on the account ur using to install AS 4.1 ...and yes..WM5.0 does not run on AS 4.0 and below...

Well the first thing you gotta do is install a legit copy of WIndows XP
Update to SP2 and then install activesync 4.1....Hope this helps!

Well, since getting a legit copy today isn't in the cards, I tried my girl friends laptop.

Update worked like a charm.

Done the fake server trick.

Now I'll be filling the boards with all sorts of questions
