Set up E-mail on Exchange Server
Applies to: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC
To set your device to sync with Exchange Server, you’ll need your Exchange Server address, your user name, password, and domain name. Your IT Department can tell you the correct server address.
You’ll need to set up your over-the-air connections to sync remotely. See Set Up Your Connections.
Set up E-mail on Exchange Server
Set up your Exchange Server e-mail:
From your device:
You can sync directly with Exchange Server using a connection to either a wireless network or a PC.
* From the Today screen, tap Start > Programs > ActiveSync.
Note You may see a screen with several messages. If you click on the link that says "If your company supports syncing directly with its Exchange Server you can set up your device to sync with it," you’ll be led through a series of steps to sync your e-mail with your Exchange Server. Otherwise, continue with the steps below.
* Tap Menu > Configure Server. If you have not yet set up sync with Exchange Server, this will say Add Server Source.
* In Server address, enter the name of the server running Exchange Server.
* Select the This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection check box if required by your IT department. Most companies require this, and if you do not check this box, you will be unable to sync with your company Exchange Server.
* Tap Next.
* Enter your name, password, and domain, and tap Next.
* Select the Save password text box if you want to enable automatic sync.
* To change the rules for resolving synchronization conflicts, tap Advanced.
* Select the check boxes for the types of information items that you want to synchronize with Exchange Server.
* To change available synchronization settings, select the type of information and tap Settings.
* Tap Finish.

You can also use the Sync Setup Wizard to set up the device to synchronize remotely with Exchange Server. This wizard is started when you connect your mobile device to your PC after installing ActiveSync on the PC.
From your desktop
You can set up your device to synchronize with Exchange Server over a wireless network or through a cable, cradle, infrared, or Bluetooth connection to a PC.
Please obtain the following information: Server name, user name, password, and domain.
* Connect your device to your PC.
* When the device is not synchronizing, click Tools, then click Configure Server Source.
* In Server address, enter the name of the server running Exchange Server.
* Under Logon credentials, enter your name, password, and domain.
* Select Save password so that you will not have to enter it every time a scheduled synchronization occurs.
* Set your preferred conflict resolution.
You can tell whether an information type is synchronized with your PC or with Exchange Server by clicking Tools, then clicking Options.
Change which information is synchronized
* In ActiveSync on the device, tap Menu > Options.
* Do one or both of the following:
o Select the check box for any items you want to synchronize. If you cannot select a check box, you might have to clear the check box for the same information type elsewhere in the list.
o Clear the check box for any items you want to stop synchronizing.
* To stop synchronizing with one computer completely, tap the computer name and tap Delete.
Notes
Outlook e-mail can be synchronized with only one computer. To change available synchronization settings, select the type of information and tap Settings.
Sync your information manually:
* From the Today screen, tap Start > Programs > Active Sync.
* Tap Sync.
Change the synchronization schedule
Schedule wireless synchronization to occur automatically at regular intervals.
* In ActiveSync on the device, tap Menu > Schedule.
* Do one or more of the following:
To sync Do this
When you are working or e-mail volume is high Select a shorter interval in the Peak times list.
When e-mail volume is low select a longer interval or As items arrive in the Off-peak times list.
While roaming Tap Use above settings while roaming. Tip: To minimize roaming charges, clear the check box and synchronize manually while roaming.
When you select Send in Messaging on the device Select the Send outgoing items immediately check box.
Important Note
The device power-down timer is reset each time you synchronize. If you schedule a synchronization interval that is shorter than the time interval set for the device to automatically power down, the device will never turn off to save battery power.
Add a device address
The device address is used to signal your device to synchronize every time an item arrives or is changed in Exchange Server.
* In ActiveSync on the device, tap Menu > Schedule.
* Tap on the link in Set up device to sync when new items arrive to access the Device Address interface.
* Do one of the following:
o If you have been instructed to use a pre-defined service provider profile, select the profile name for your service plan in the Service provider list, and enter your device phone number, if necessary, in Phone number for this device.
o If you do not want to use a provider profile, select Other in the Service Provider list. Then enter the device address in Text messaging address for this device. This is the same address that Internet users use to send text messages to your device.
