Me TOO!! Do not use the built-in App!

I did a full data backup and then a Hard reset and the built-in restore could not complete. It kept crashing with an "error writing to disk". Had to re-install everything from scratch.

I've got a question about the built-in backup utility.

Is there any way to pull out certain files out of the backup? I have a few files I would like to recover from a previous backup and I don't want to overwrite everything I currently have.

I have copied the backup to another computer. I'm just wondering if it's possible for me to look through a backup with some other utility and pull out only certain files.

Thanks,

Heart Axim x51v backup

I have used the backup utility that comes with the Axim the first time I tried to use it it did not function (did not restore). Had to reload everything. BUT I tried the backup utility the other day as I had to do a hard reset. (minimo-Not) I had in theory a backup from the stock software. I was looking at some of the other products (Sprite, Sunnyside). I will say the the one I liked was Sunnyside very easy to use. I used the stock product to restore my unit and it worked so I hard reset and backed-up and restored several times. My point is that I was about to purchase another utility and the fear of not having a stable backup is worrysome to say the least. I have used the stock backup for several weeks now without any apparent problems, glitches, or querks.
Happy with my Axim

I had seen several opinions that indicate that the built-in data backup can successfully backup and restore non-PIM data. Since PIM data is already backed up in my laptop, just as data files, I am only interested in restoring applications (which I can also reinstall).
I will give a try to the built in backup.

I often found backing up my Axim to be more work then necessary.

Backing up the PIM is uselss - since restoring it will only confuse Outlook when it re-synchronizes.

As for App Data, I store them on a flashcard when I can and back that up.

I treat my PDA as any other Windows. I have to rebuild it anyway, and it's better to do so to clean out all the application garbage left behind by any software installs/removals.

Is there any harm in removing the native "Data Backup" program from the x51V?

What is the program doing for 2 minutes or so when you first open it and it chugs away doing something? Is it collecting the data to back up?

Does spb go through the same process?

So, what is the "final verdict" on the useability of "Data Backup" on the x51v? I got confused with some of the later comments. Keep it ? or get a different program? Does PIM data really get confuse confused on the next Active Sync ? Does spb do any better at this?
