Challenge for a bored yet genius WM5.0 programmer Re: Bluetooth Dialing
There are a lot of RAZR v3 owners out there who have tried to get their Axim to dial a contact via bluetooth... and, from what I can tell, they have all failed miserably.
After some research, I have concluded that the real problem here is with the motorola v3, rather than the Axim. It seems that most of the contact dialing software for the Axim uses a BT serial port... and the moto BT stack doesn't support that.
However, back when I was messing around with trying to use dialup internet via my RAZR, I *was* able to get the RAZR to dial a phone number, via bluetooth, in an attempt to connect to the internet. Now, this attempt also failed because Cingular doesn't support CSD... but that's not the point. The point is, my axim was able to pass a phone number to my RAZR via bluetooth and the RAZR dialed it.
That means that, in theory, the infrastructure is there to get the Axim to dial contacts via the BT connection. I just don't have a freakin clue about how to do it.
That is where you come in, Mr. (or Mrs.) Bored-Genius WM5.0 programmer. :nw: Can you find a way to write a program that will allow an x51v user to select a contact and dial their number? I would recommend investigating the inner workings of the dial-up networking program. This service works fine on the v3 and is the only gateway I think exists to get the v3 to dial a number.
So... does this even seem possible? As stated above, I don't have much knowledge about WM5.0 programming... so I don't know how feasible this is. However, to my uneducated eye, it would seem that you could work something out since the dial-up networking feature is capable of passing a number to the phone via bluetooth.
If anyone can crack this problem, you will have a lot of very happy v3 users singing your praises! Any other v3 users out there who would like to see this, just post "Go Genius, GO!" in this thread as a show of support! :)
One problem is dun activation on the phone puts it in data mode. I believe any voice functioning capabilities of the phone are turned off at that time
Are you sure about that? A few times I picked up on the call while it was making it and I heard the old SCREECH CLICK CLICK HUM of an old-school modem connection. I'm not exactly sure what that MEANS... but it didn't seem like data mode :)
That is correct V3's and V551's do not support the serial port service. I did a service query to my v551 using btCrawler and it did not list the service we Moto users need. I think all Moto's have this problem. The best way to make this happen is to dump your phone and go with Sony Ericsson which is what I'm doing. My v551 is a great phone but it's bluetooth blows arse!! Even when connecting a bluetooth headset, the phone will not support custom ring tones, and the EDGE capability is horribly slow.
there is a way for this to work... my V3 worked superbly with my T5 and never had any issues. so there is a way...
i tried motomodders and no-one replied about the serial port problem, if someone makes a post there let us know your link or user name so we can all try and push them to make something work for us!
i really hope they fix this, another few weeks of being crippled and i'm going for a new SE phone..... unfirtunatly... i love my V3, especially with the 1900mAh battery!
Are you guys talking about dialing out to cingular GPRS with the Razr v3 or dialing to your ISP access number?
With my Cingular Razr v3 and x51v I was able to sucessfully dial out to cingular GPRS and surf the net through mediaNET with my x51v. As for dialing out to ISP access number I cannot find any information on it. The only infórmation I've found is that Cingular have block of this option.
There's a feature on Cingular.com that stated "dialup & fax", Iam so so so curious to try that out one day to see what it does as far as dialup & fax goes. Unless someone here try it and it didn't work.
Well good luck on your finding and dont forget to post back with the result.

I use a V3 and can dial a contact via BT. I have Broadcomm stack v036 in my X51v and have installed a freeware app called VmBtDialSetup.
The V3 has a serial port service? My v551 doesn't!!!
The V3 doesn't either AFAIK. However the DialSetUp app I mentioned connects via a BT1 port, and dials the number. In the same way, I can send texts using an app called MultiSMS. It just works!

Is this from the ongoing broadcomm thread here at aximsite? I still haven't messed with that any, but if you're telling me you've got it working on an x51v w/ a v3 phone, I'm gonna take the plunge......
also, can you point me in the direction of the files you installed and directions you followed? I know that project is still a work in progress and I wanna make sure I'm on the same page as you.
I got my V551 to work with the Brodcomm hack .35 and .36 and the BTdialer software. The main problem is that the software does not add a "1" when dialing long distance and I don't feel like adding the country code of 1 to my 900 phone numbers.
Went back to 2003SE and it works just as well. It can be done with the V551.

Yes, that's the thread. In my case I installed v02 first, following the installation instructions exactly, and it worked fine; and later v036 on top of that, again following the upgrade instructions, and again the installation went fine. There seems to be an issue with installing v036 directly: apparently one has to install the registry platform v035 first, but this is explained in the thread. Good luck! (If you back up first with say Spb Backup, then if anything goes wrong you can always hard reset and restore.)
kpc1, so how do you do it, I have v036 installed. I have my phone paired under the paired devices, do I have to create a shortcut though (By clicking on New)? Right now I paired my v551 and then clicked on New and browse services on device and picked the only one, DUN!! Is the pairing step necessary? Thanks.
