I have an X51v here and a WiFi network I know I can connect to.
I also have a SSID and a WEP key... unfortuantly they bunch of them don't seem to want to work together!!
When I start the adapter in the Axim, as usual it comes up with the "New Network" notification box with the SSID. I pick the SSID and of course there's the WEP key request. I type the thing out agonizingly slowly on the keyboard and then press ok.
The dialog box instantly (withotut any pause whatsover) changes to "Wrong Network Key" and asks me to do it again. It doesn't even seem to try and check if it's the right WEP key.
Can anyone help me out here? What might I be doing wrong?

try going into ur router..copy n paste the key into a wrd file...copy that file to ur ppc..turn on wireless..when prompted for...copy n paste from the wrd document...this is just to def make sure the key is correct...
I have 128 WEP encyption & the WEP no is so long. So I created a note with the number & althoughyou can't copy & paste when you start wirless open the note so you can see it which makes it easier to input without errors.
If you are going to use WEP, you may as well stick to 64-bit. In practical terms, it's just as secure as 128 and it's a lot easier to get 10 characters correct than 26.

Had the same problem when I used a ascii passkey. Turns out some routers don't use the same algorithm to create a hex key. Netgear for sure doesn't. The simplest way to do this is to use Odessey Client to set it up using the same HEX key in your router and axim. I had to type the whole thing out by hand (only once though) and since have had no problems.
ok so network key for my home wireless router is 8 digits (this is what im using for my laptop and no problem) but my dell axim is telling me that the network key supposed to be 5,10 or 13 characters long
Nope, a WEP key is 10 hexadecimal characters (for 64-bit) or 26 characters (for 128). The '8 digits' is a password and was transformed into 10 or 26 by the router software. If you open the router settings utility, it will show you the hex key.

thanks alot for reply!! have been looking for the last hour or so for a way to access router settings utility to find the wep key for my router but no luck...
Most home routers have access to the setup via the web browser. Entering the router’s IP into the address box and pressing enter usually opens the setup. For most Linksys, the IP is 192.168.1.1; for Netgear and D-Link, 192.168.0.1; Belkin, 192.168.2.1; Siemens, 192.168.254.254. You'll need the 'user name' and password for the setup utility but the defaults vary depending on the brand and you really should have changed it when you first installed the router.
