Thinking about upgrading to EDGE phone for x51v...

I'm thinking about upgrading my phone to something that is EDGE capable.

I was just wondering if I will have to do something special to my x51v to get it to connect with this instead of GPRS. Would i have to change my settings?

And is EDGE really THAT much better than GPRS? I'm on Cingular service (well technically ATT that rolled over to Cingular).

If you use EDGE via your x51v please let me know how the internet works in relation to a GPRS connection.

Thanks a lot

Sean

I just switched from a moto v551 (edge) to a sony ericsson t616 (gprs) and found that there is no difference in speed. I have not measured speed with an application to back my words up but in my opinion they are both about the same. This may be due to the fact that the v551 is a low class I think 6 modem compared to the class 8 found in the t616. So in summary, if you were to go to edge phone just make sure it's a higher class to really notice any differences.

Cingular's EDGE coverage is not all the great either. T-mobile seems to have a bit better coverage, and speeds of anywhere between 100k-200k, but it is also hit or miss depending on location.

Oh and I also forgot, no you don't have to change any settings on your axim to take advantage of the connection. I too was an old ATT customer, the good news is that you are eligible to keep your old line and upgrade to a newer plan and receive the phones for free (well some of them). At least that's what happened to me. Normally if you want to qualify for free phones or even rebates you have to dump your old line and open a new one to qualify as a "new customer".
