I have the Seidio FM transmitter. It is pretty much garbage...
I have heard some very nice quality FM transmitters hooked up to ipods though - so I am wondering if anyone has gotten decent audio quality from their x50/51? I suppose the headset jack is my only option - which I suppose will never be great quality.
I have a phone that I tested the Seidio with (Sharp 903SH) - sounded just as terrible which is promising - cause I am hoping it is just the Seidio transmitter and not the x50v. I have optical outputs on the phone as well - and they sound amazing (just not through the Seidio).
I assume you want to play music in your car. If so the best option would be a direct hook up to your head unit. Some head units have the built in capability for this. Next best sound is the cassette adapter. The worst is the fm transmitter, especially in a crowded metropolitan area like Toronto or Chicago where it's difficult to find a free frequency.
If you want to make the axim's audio output sound better, try x50 mix. Its a great program, especially if you plan to use your axim to output audio via the headphone jack. I use it to make streaming radio sound good on a big stereo. http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/#x50mix

What kind of head unit do you have? In my nissan I found a way to add a hardwired aux input. Some factory units and most newer aftermarket units support a direct aux input using the cd changer or even a dedicated AUX connection. If you can't add a hardwired aux in, the next best option is a hardwired FM Modulator (not the same as a wireless FM transmitter.) A wired FM modulator connects directly to your unit's antenna so as to provide better signal quality. They run $20-50 on ebay.
ya same thing in my nissan titan theres aux 3.5mm jack right in the front, most units in the back have a line with rca jacks. But how bad is the quality of ur FM transmitter i have a belkin one and it sounds great. do you have quality worse than radio?
Thanks for the great ideas. Not sure what kind of inputs (if any) are in my stock Volvo V70 (2005) stereo. Any one else have a Volvo? Manual doesn't say anything....
I will give the x50 Mix a try. The main problem with this FM Transmitter is a hiss - whether in town (Toronto) or even in the small towns with very little FM traffic. The sound quality of the audio is really terrible - but I will know better after trying x50 Mix.
I really like the idea of getting a hardwired solution - but Volvo wouldn't touch anything and threaten 'Volvo warranty void' when playing around with aftermarket... They do sell an ipod kit for my car (for $400!!) that gives an ipod jack in the armrest - so I assume that they must connect this to the stereo with an aux input of some sort....

I agree, but the 3D option makes music sound a bit tinny and low bitrate:exc: :rolling:
