x50v Stolen

Ya thats right my x50v was stolen.

Thats said, I guess my only option is a x51v.
The question is buy now or wait?
Wait for more firmware updates.(When will those be?)
Wait for WM5 to be more stable?(Or updated?)
For those of you who have a X51v and could do it all over again,
would you wait? Or are you completely satisfied?
Lastly, how long should I wait?
I know this site is very up to date on it's info so I'm sure I
would be able to keep abreast of the changes.
I also know that on the front page of this website there was
a open letter to Dell to fix some of their issues.
So once again wait or buy now?

Thanks!
Robert

Sorry to hear about your loss... that really sucks

As for your question... 100% happy with my decision to get a 51v. My wife now uses the 50v and loves it. I bought a 51v with intent to return it if it wasn'tb worth it... I still have it a couple months later and have no regrets :approve:

You could get an X50V off eBay or from the Dell refurbished site ;).

Well I figured I would go with more updated technology.
I am a little leary of ebay. I know of someone who got burned.
At least dealing with Dell I know what my "knowns" are.

Thank you though.

One more question for the both of you. (Netsyd and John)
In my X50v I had a 1 gb cf card. I had pretty much all the apps I
needed and then some.

Still had half the card clear for more stuff.

You two look like you have a lot of programs on your axims.
How many gb cards do you have in them.
If you don't mind me asking.

P.S. John I just looked at your "View My PDA" and got my answer. *duh!*

Thanks again.
Robert

You're probably OK either way as long as you have backups.

I have a 1GB SD card in mine along with 512MB CF and a 5GB microdrive. But, all of my apps are in the BIS, all of my data/mousic/movies I keep on the cards.

I have about 110Mb of free storage still available on the ax itself, even with about 30 apps installed, and I average about 25-28Mb of free ram.

Hope that helps.

I also had my x50 stolen. I got my x51V a couple weeks ago and I love it. I haven't had any problems other than a few little software issues (magic button). I love WM5 and I prefer my x51 over the x50. I have a 1GB SD card and that holds more than everything I need including a couple movies. When it gets to a point that I need more storage I'll go after a microdrive when the prices come down more. You can get a 1GB SD card for so cheap now days it didn't seem worth the money for me to get anything bigger right now. But I guess it all depends on what you use it for. Good luck.

I am going to have to go back and read about BIS because it seems to me that when I started to load my programs in BIS then I no room left to run just the regular apps.
But like I said I guess I need to do some more reading.

Thanks
Robert

I have yet to experience that issue... although I had heard that before. Not sure how or what causes it, but wm5 does not seem to suffer from it

Truthfully "Net", I was so new to Axim at the time I may have been trying to load the programs in Main Memory. Now that I had it for a year then it wouldn't be an
issue.

John thanks for the info. Sprite backup seems handy.

Dell Axim is such a cool computer. It just amazes me how indepth with computer knowledge one can go to use this little hand held wonder. Its definitely not your Grand Mothers PC!

I don't think it'll do any good waiting. I mean the X51 hardware is not gonna change.. and you can always find the firmware upgrades on Dell site.

I know how u feel. Got my x51v stolen just last month and i'm still feeling the lost. Right now i'm scraping to get a replacement. As many problems as the x51v has, the advantages still out-weight disadvantages of not having one...
