[80004005] ActiveSync 3.8 will not sync and is killing my pc [80004005]

For many months now ActiveSync has not only not worked, but it has disabled other parts of the software installed on my pc. I cannot create an email, contact or edit ANYTHING in outlook while the ppc is connected to the dock.

I lived with this for a while but now that I am switching jobs I would like a backup of my tasks on my pocket pc that used to sync up with my work machine (just for archival purpose).

Anyway NOT A SINGLE TASKS, CONTACT OR CALENDAR ITEM will sync between the pocket pc and the axim x50v. I'm using 2003se on ppc and outlook in xp btw.

Is this normal? Not being able to sync a single thing? Every single sync attempt results in 'xxx items not synched' and then when you try to 'resolve' this it says 'Error 80004005' for every single item. I'm so tired of seeing 80004005 so god damn much.

I looked online and there is no useful information whatsoever anywhere on the web regarding this error. Either someone posts to a form and it just sits there or they follow up with their individual, magical fix that is different EVERY SINGLE TIME but NEVER works for me. I've reinstalled outlook, reinstalled activesync, tried different versions of activesync, hard reset, soft reset etc etc etc.

How the hell do I get those tasks out of the ppc and into my home machine!? I'm guessing that solving this problem is beyond the grasp of mere mortals given what I've seen in google. Since AS will never work is there some hacking I can do to make a backup of those tasks somehow?

What a bunch of crap - I have not idea why I have spent this much energy trying to get things on this platform to work. The only thing I have left to try is re-installing windows xp and I don't have the time to go through all of that thank you.

Hi SevenNine,

Try remove AS & install again. Then soft reset, & sync.

If still problem, perform the following sequence and test synchronization between each step:
a. Run scanpst to check the PST for errors.
b. Open Outlook and click on Help - Detect & Repair to fix Outlook. This requires the Outlook CD.
c. Create a new folder in Outlook.
Move all the data of the type that is not synchronizing to the new folder.
Move it back until you find the item causing the error.
d. Create a new PST file:
File > New > Outlook Data File
Move your data into that PST.
Set that PST as the default PST in Outlook:
Tools > Email Accounts > Next
Select the new PST as the default email delivery location.
Close the old PST in Outlook.

If you still can't sync, check out the AS troubleshooting site.

Post back if you need further assistance.

No problem with active sync version 4.1, although I had the error code with an older version of Outlook. I believe it needs Outlook 2002 or 2003 or higher.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. But I do not have any problems with data from Outlook, it is the data that exists in the pocket pc that will not sync.

Also, at the Microsoft site it says AS 4.1 is only for WM5 devices. Should I try using it anyway. It says people using 2003 SE should continue using 3.8.

Anyway since I can't afford to lose the data in my ppc, I think I will try re-installing Outlook 2003 once again after saving all my data to a pst file. I am not looking forward to this, but it seems to be the only thing I can try.

I can attest that AS 4.1 works with 2003se. I installed it when I went to WM5 and didn't uninstall it when I rolled back. I have not had any problems with syncing Outlook to multiple 2003se, 2003 & 2002 devices on AS 4.1. I can't guarantee you would have the same results but I can't see why you wouldn't.

SevenNine,

"I can't afford to lose the data in my ppc"
In your Axim, there is a file that contains all your pim info. It's in \My Device. The filename is PIM.VOL. Just copy it to your SD/CF Card. :approve:

"it is the data that exists in the pocket pc that will not sync."
Can you expand on this? I'm not clear. Is it corrupted or do you get an error msg?
