x50v - Sudden Crash

I was horrified yesterday when I was putting an appointment into my calendar on my x50v. It locked up, and the screen looked like every other line in the display dissapeared.

That wasn't the scary part. My Ax has locked up before (although not with the strange screen issue). So I did the usual soft reset.

A few seconds later - I heard that 'new in box' sound and looked down to see the 'Welcome' screen prompting me to do the initial setup.

My device crashed and did a hard reset - no warning. The system was soft reset at 1:00am that day (after my last backup), so it's not like it was bogged down or anything.

Now I don't do too much crazy stuff with my x50v. It's running WM2003SE (A04 ROM) just as it was when I first got it. I have a SBP pocket plus running with a few of the today plugins turned on, but nothing major.

After getting over the initial shock of my Ax being reduced to it's factory fresh state, I calmed down, and went to BIS in ran Sprite Backup and proceeded to do a restore.

A few minutes later I was up and running, less a few calendar appointments that I hadn't synced before the crash. No need to install all my apps again.

I'd like to know -

1) Does anyone have a clue why this would have happened out of the blue while doing something as simple as entering a calendar appointment?

2) Why would anyone have an Axim without having Sprite Backup? Best thing since sliced bread.

1) Massive OS or RAM Failure? I can't imagine what would have caused it, but that would be my guess.

2) That or Spb Backup. I think not having one of these utilities is a major brain fart.
