I too have the same exact issue, just received a replacement unit from dell (x51v) same exact problem, so i take its common on all units, correct me if i am wrong?

Yup, it seems the same (in Landscape) crappy screen is in all x50v/x51v's... The only solutions seems to be watching the screen with one eye only.
Very interesting topic! I have my X51V since Monday, still getting to now the machine, and I haven't even found out yet how to set the screen to landscape!
When checking my webmail I couldn't read half my screen, so landscape would really help, I think

I really dont have that experience with my X51v. I love the Landscape mode.
I t gives my PPC a cool look. I like opera too ( in landscape mode). I use mine for hours in landscape mode- in fact sine I bought it weeks ago it has never gone back in portrait mode.
The only fadind I see is the hue and saturation in the menu and task bars. That to me is supposed to be deliberate as this gives the new OS 5.0 a cool efffect.
Yes the colors at times seem under saturated but thats a Pocket PC thing.
Again I say no other PDA has the color saturation of the PalmIIIc.
I completely agree with OP. The screen they use for the X51V is horrible in landscape mode. The field of view is far too tight for two eyes. Look at the screen in landscape mode and close one eye then the other. The images are markedly different. As another poster report, I have to resort to tilting the screen off the Y axis to get the images to look more similar but it make everything look bad. It makes the X51V not so good for movie watching in landscape mode. Comparatively, my Treo 650 doesn't have this problem. Portrait or landscape looks exactly the same. The X51V screen is hi-res, vga, but other than that the quality is horrible compared to the Treo.
I just think that some people notice it while others don't. Same thing with DLP rainbows and screen flicker. I don't know how people can leave their CRTs at 60Hz. It looks like a strobe light to me yet a lot of people don't even notice it.

Horrible? Don't you think you're being a bit over-critical here? Isn't it enough to just acknowledge that there is an issue, and not blow it completely out of proportion?

No I'm not. Compare it to the screen on your Treo 650. It's like night and day. The Treo 650's screen is smooth for a lack of a better world. The X51Vs is "rough". You have to look at them to know what I'm talking about.

Is the polarization problem solved in the X51V with later hardware (>A01) (Hardware. Not firmware)?
Another thought - Some people have larger heads than others, and, since their eyes ought to be further apart they might experience the awkward landscape phenomenon more.

Nope, still the same cheapo screen in newer x51v's.

Yup, this can indeed be the case at least with me - I have quite a big head.
