RSS Feeds. What is the point?

I down loaded an RSS Feed viewer onto my Axim...

All went well...

I wanted a viewer that would down load News, Sport e.t.c. at home so that I could read it on the train on the way to work.

I downloaded a few feeds from the BBC and a few others.

On viewing the feeds, all I got was a headline!!!

Read the whole lot in about 5 mins.

I still cant see the point of these if I was at home.

If I logged onto the BBC website I would be able to view the same (full) stories.

In either case I would need a WI-FI connection.

Is there some other form of news viewer that down loads more complete articles?

that depends on the rss feed... Some will have a full story (the mobility site one is very good :) ) others will just have the headline, but will let you click and view the full item on their website.

you may want to try avantgo, or mobipocket instead

Some RSS feed programs (like Egress) has a cache function. This should allow you to store web pages. Personally I have enough headlines in egress that it takes me ten minutes to pick through.

I also have Journal Bar. It’s a cross between an RSS feed and Avantgo. I would give a trial version a shot. It has a feature that allows you to store all the stories on a storage card. Works well.

I subscribed to avantgo for years, but it has too many issues. That’s why I now use Egress and Journal bar.

Try pRSSreader. It's free and it definitely will download the entire story (unless it spans several pages). It also has a caching feature, and you can update the channels for new content.

I am using PRSSREADER.

I guess I am just using the wrong feeds.

Anyone know of any good UK news and Sport feeds?

If you have Pocket Breeze, it fits in there - just make sure the tabs are not painted verticle.

The new (free) version of mobipocket allows you to download news, sports, etc. It creates a mobipocket edoc that gets downloaded to read on the go. Excellent in my opinion.

Make sure you do the following:

Select Tools>Site Manager. Select your feed, then tap "Edit". Select the Caching Tab, and check "Cache content for offline browsing" and if you want pictures, check "Store images within items". Then, (and this may be what you haven't done), select File>Exit. Don't check the upper-right corner checkbox. Hope this helps! :approve:

Make sure you tell it you want the full articles...most RSS readers are set to only grab the first few words/headline and not the whole article.

Most you can set to get the full article though.

The main idea of RSS is that you can use one program to see all your feeds and automatically download them for on the go reading. Personally I only use RSS at www.BlogLines.com so i can speedily read through all the news in a uniform view (without all the ads).
