I've been told by tech support that
1) I can buy wm5 in any good shop
2) that I would get an update lastmonth/next week/soon
3) that they would write down my issues and pass them on
4) that they would throw that paper away
5) Anything else to make me go away and stop bothering them.

So unless you have something in writing... quoting sources etc.. i wouldn't believe everything that you get told on the phone

As previously stated.......unless you have something officially documented (not some Dell tech support yutz in a chat session), then it's not worth believing.

OMG, what is this world going to...

You purchase the seemingly top of the line PDA, and boom, support and any acknolegement of its customerbase has vanashed.

I have gold tech support and get the same runaround. GOLD!

Software can't physically damage memory anyway. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I did mentioned before that my Axim was not the same after I rolled back to 2003, and I was on 2005 for less than a week.
Call me paranoia, but I do own an Axim, and it does not feel the same after the "upgrade" and rolled back. (wi-fi takes longer to connect, memory intensive program will freeze the device, can't run multiple programs w/o problem(s).....)
Dell did pulled the upgrade off the website for a while.
Maybe there's something there.

Software runs a lot more "things" than we realize or want it to be.
Software on a disk doesn't mean anything, but the purpose of the software is to operate the hardware, which can do a lot of damage.
The world's nuclear arsenals are probably run, control, and maintain by software of some sort.

Well, as buggy as it is, I wouldn't be too surprised if it did mess something up.

Flash ram only has a limited number of writes in it's lifetime, I believe, so it could be true... I rolled back because I only have a limited lifetime too and WM5 was so slooooow. Even with 2 months of getting to know it's quirks and trying all the patches on this forum!

Be careful throwing that phrase around, because you are wrong. All types of persistant memory have a certain life expectancy, determined by the number of writes made to the chips. If a process is errantly hitting the same area of memory repeatedly, it could easily shorten its lifespan, and if left running long enough could actually push it to failure.

actually what you said above is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Software runs everything, memory, your cpu, everything... if the software in your bios tells the motherboard to supply 4 volts to your ram, it is physically damaging that ram. I could give many more examples, but this is not meant to be a flame. Just pointing out that your statement is a little off.

Ok so if your bios tells windows to push 12 volts to memory because bios is buggy what then?

AC adator has a nominal value of 5V and the battery has a nominal value of 3.6V!
How come you have 12V from Axims?
