My early observations on getting a PDA.
I always remember the advice a lecturer gave me back in 84. If a computer doesn't enhance or add to a function it's simply not worth it. With that in mind I can see the Axim scores immediately. It gives me a mobile communication capability that is second to none (if only I had people with whom I wished to communicate). The PIM has always been a struggle for me. On the one hand it's simply quicker to write a note, task, diary entry onto paper. My life was never that complex that I needed to invest greater effort than finding a piece of paper or change my diary, the Axim just about tips the balance for me in that respect. It adds alternatives, such as voice recording, that, as a package justify the change in philosophy required to make the switch. I haven't got GPS yet but that's another major factor that is an enourmous plus. As for the other aspects?
I think the games capability sends one back 20 years, the freeware software lacks imagination and seems to be looking for useful purposes for the device, I have a seperate device for multi media although the Axim is a good back up. I'm beginning to view it as a tool rather than an entertainment centre, I think that that's a good status for it to have. First and foremost a working tool/Communications device with a secondary function as a multi media/fun aspect. I'm happy enough though, and I've still a lot to learn
