True VGA for Dummies?

OK. As mentioned in just about all of my posts, I am a complete moron with software.

I REALLY want my Axim x51v to run in True VGA mode.

From all of the posts that I have found on these boards, the conversion is pretty complicated. You have to tweak the registry, copy dlls, and all kinds of gobbly-gook.

Is there an application out there that will do this conversion for me?

I know that it's theoretically possible because when I tried Minimo it would convert my browser to VGA while it was in use. And thats basically what I want.... to browse the web in true VGA (Minimo was too slow).

Thanks for that great help Jukov. I read that post and searched and read many others . Most applied to 2003ce, and ALL required registry hacks (which I don't know how to do), downloading and copying dlls (which I don't know how to), and a whole lot of other stuff I don't know how to do.

Please spare me your sarcasm.

Even your "average Joe" is capable of reading and following directions however.

The link has been down a bit lately, so PM me with your email address and I'll email it to you if it doesn't work.

For web browsing in VGA try Opera. It's a beta right now but the latest version works pretty darn good. I made this post using it. :)

Sorry for my own sarcasm and viciousness. I was on pain meds from a wicked headache I've had for 5 days when I made that post.

My apologizes. It's not like me at all.

Zatx,
I'm a big one to yell stickies, and search along with my welcome. I'm not an expert, but I"m not a novice either, but I have to admit that vga as currently deployed, twists this pretzel into one more knot than it can take.

That coupled with the folks who have removed the programs from their system, or who then compalined about everything being too small, makes me think it's not quite as simple as the true believers would have us average joes think. just my .02.

Im confused that Opera and Minimo can automatically switch your browser to True VGA, but someone much smarter than me, can't write a program to do the same thing.

Would be awesome to have a button to hit and WHAMO your Axim is now in True VGA and hit again to switch back.

Obviously the coding is out there if these two browser programs are doing it.

Somebody definitely should write a program like that, it is much needed. :approve:

How I understand is this, your pda is VGA enabled but it's just not running at the full VGA resolution. The built-in pocket IE will "auto" detect your screen resolution and display accordingly. The Opera seems to be running at full VGA resolution by default so it's not really swiching modes sort of speak. The key is if we can find a way to force the pocket IE to be running at VGA resolution regardless of the actual screen resolution.

I've tried the ozVGA and myTrueVGA cab file and both failed my expectation. MyTrueVGA is just not stable (pda freeze all the time) where ozVGA is much better in that regard. With either version you'll find some places fonts and icons are not displayed properly. (power, brightness, cpu setting screen) Also many of the programs including my favorite games do not work under true VGA mode.

I only like to have the true VGA for reading e-book and web browsing and so far I've got those resolved by using isilo for ebook and opera for web.
