The option to turn off the device, as opposed to just suspending it, is only on the x51v. The theory on why it won't work on the x50v is because even if you shut off power from the main battery, the backup battery will try to maintain power to ram. The x51v does not have a backup battery.
I guess they could have engineered the device so that you could shut off power from the backup battery as well if you wanted.
In theory, you could just yank out the main battery from your x50v to conserve them. Sure, your backup battery will drain in 30 minutes, but with WM5, your data is safe in flash. The only downside I see is that once you put back the main batteries, the backup battery will try to recharge itself and that will take some energy from your mains.
Question: when you x51v users swap batteries, does your device reboot once you put the battery back in since you don't have a backup battery to keep the ram alive? I guess this would only matter if you were in the middle of something like playing a game or watching a movie. I have tested that you can run the axim with no battery as long as the power is connected so there is that workaround.
