x51v hard reset - no data loss?!?

Hi all -

So, I woke up this morning to the familiar x51V not turning on issue. I have put the ActiveSync hack in place and that seemed to have fixed it...until now that is. I tried a soft reset, switching batteries, cradling the Axim to no avail.

I chatted with Dell support and was directed to do a hard reset. Great. I figured I would lose all of my installed programs, contacts, etc. I held the power button down and pressed the reset button. Lo and behold....the Axim turned on! "Good...at least the hard reset worked" I thought.

Much to my surprise, I still have all of my programs, all of my contacts, all of my data. Very bizzare. So, did I just not do the hard reset correctly? Is there a medium reset? :) Has anyone else ever seen this behavior?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I just reset my X51v and lost everything, but my backup worked great (spb backup program). When you pressed the power button and reset, two options came up, press contacts to delete all and press the mail button to cancel this operation, which did you do? That may be what happened.

Have a Great Day,
By the way are you buying home brew or making your own, if so which ones have you found that you like? I'm using Mr.Beer products and especially like their Irish Stout.
Jim

Agreed. Your device only performed a soft-reset. If a hard-reset had been done, the Axim would have formatted the file storage area of the ROM.

Thanks all. That's what I figured. Btw, Jim, I haven't homebrewed in a LONG time unfortunately. We used to use a lot of Muntons stuff.
