Over the years I have used many freeware programs for this.
1 - Magic button (free)
2 - iLauncher - cheap, Efficient, the best software developer support I have ever seen
3 - SPB -cool software. It takes up a far amount of storage. works well.
4 - Battery Pack Pro. Cool graphics. I have had no issue with it.
I rotate between these programs every few months. #1 and #2 are the best choices in my mind.
How do you get the battery level indicator with magic button????
I can't seem to find it anywhere!
If I hold down on the "Home" icon and go to settings, I've selected
the "Battery Status" box, but nothing shows up on the home screen.
I tried holding down on various areas of the screen and still can't find
any sort of battery indicator.
That thread has a nice little utility that displays a power bar at the top of the screen, and optionally a cpu speed and usage meter at the bottom. They can be seen in most progrmas and it is very useful when watching films and things.

Tap and hold the "Home" icon until the menu shows up, select settings, and put a check in the box labeled "Battery Status".
