Giving up X50v For...

Hi all,

Going to buy a PPC phone edition and thinking of getting the iMate JASJAR, I have read alot of reviews on it and aside from the size I really like the device.

But before I order from expansys I have a few questions?

First of is Expansys a good place to order it or can I find it cheaper else where?

What is the most up to date ROM on the imate Jasjar (is iMate customer support good)?

How does it compare to the Axim x50v interms of video playback (mostly divX and Xvid files with TCPMP)?

How is the battery life?

Is there a site I can go on for the Jasjar to learn all about it (similar to Aximsite)?

Or lastly should I just hold out and buy the next best thing (Only if Dell will come out with a new convergence device)?

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I had an iMate Jam from expansys (UK) before Christmas and returned it (earpiece speaker volume too quiet - a common fault Iunderstand onthat model) they were very good and processed the refund very quickly. I read alot ontheir forums and whilst you might pay slightly ,ore for the imate version than the qtek, imate offer better support through club imate where as other don't.

There is a very good site for phones www.modaco.com; well worth a good look at their forums.

If you do get rid of your axim, you can still stay here. People in the axim community seem to be able to help you with anything. Youll find there are few sites like this one.

Have a look at the Gadgeteers latest review.

Regarding video performance, I don't think any handheld available atm could top the X50v for video performance. I couldn't believe that when using TCPMP to benchmark a 608x304 MP4 DivX file with AAC audio i got a speed of 240%!! That is unbelievable.

Maybe the X51v? :D Nah, X50v with WM2003SE is currently the top, followed closely by the X51v (198%?), and the hx4700(?) a distant third.

Honestly, when I first played my DVD rip of Star Trek: Insurrection at that resolution I was blown away with the quality.

Hagow, I think I am in the exact same boat as you. I've been researching the JasJar, and I think it's the real deal. Here's a good, hands-on review:

http://www.modaco.com/My_review_of_t...r-t228393.html

It sounds like the Bluetooth headset would be essential for using regularly as a phone.

As for the high price, I found a post on some message board that very crudely lists all sorts of i-mate and other products with prices all around $200. The company name is CellComm (?) and I've been emailing back and forth the past few days with a Donald Lawson, trying to find out if this is legit or not. He says he's got the JasJar for $260. Just send the money Western Union and in 48hrs, he'll ship the JasJar.

Sounds a little fishy to me...
