Active Sync 3.8 & Axim X51v

Is it possible to use Active Sync 3.8 with the X51v, reason is that version 4.1 obviously is not compatible with Windows 98. Even if some type of functionality is lost if it can be done, are there any special drivers, etc. that can be loaded so that the X51v is recognized?

Active Sync 3.8 installed itself perfectly.

Thanks,

Roger

Unfortunately... No.... X51v only works with 4.0 or 4.1

Hi Ray,

Well, does Active Sync 4.0 work with Windows 98?

I had installed Active Sync 3.8 and it installed fine, recognizes the USB port as being available. Then it appears to want a driver from Windows 98 so that my device is recognized. It almost appears as if it did find the driver, then it would recognize it. It's not looking for it from the Active Sync side, that's why I thought it might work. Can you make sense out of that?

Roger

I dont think it does, but I have not tried it. I think it is 32 bit only which means Win2k or higher..

WM5 connects with a completely different method than the earlier PPC's and actually creates a network connection with the PPC. 3.8 will never work to connect with it and you will have to delete anything that your computer installed trying to connect to it or it never will connect.

I see - so Active Sync 4.0 would not work, is there any info on. MS site only has info on 4.1, but interesting enough, it also has the download link for Active Sync 3.8.

What about the second part of my question, the driver that Windows 98 is looking for. It installs a univeral one, since it doesn't know which, but evidently that's not the correct one.

What it installed is what would happen if you hooked up your PPC without having installed Activesync first (since you installed the wrong version this caused the same symptoms). This driver will actually cause Activesync to fail if it is in place and must be removed for successful syncing.

So with Active Sync 3.8 and Windows 98 - does Windows install any driver/USB driver at all, if one was trying to sync an earlier Axim which does work with Active Sync 3.8.?
