Question Any Previous hx4700 Owners Out There?

I am seriously considering handing my iPAQ down and getting an Axim x51v. I am very disappointed that HP has not brought out an improved model and postponed the wmv5 upgrade once again.

Have any other previous hx4700 users out there made this type of switch? How happy are you with the x51v? How do its quirks and foibles differ from the hx4700 (soft resets, spontaneous hard resets, mystery battery drain)? Any third party software not transferable to the x51v?

Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I have the X51V as I write and have owned the 4700.

The 4700 has a great screen and the .3 difference in viewing for my aging eyes does make a difference. I miss the WIFI active sync and the radio (wifi) seems a to detect a signal a little better than the X51V.

I also miss the teh suppport of HP, I tried to call Dell about a non issue and gave up after waiting for 35 minutes on hold. Not good.

So far after 5 days no real complaints with the X51V. If I keep it I will purchase the 2200 milliamp battery on Ebay and look for a Socket E500 wireless card (if possible to use with WM5) to increase the wifi range in my working enviroment.

Well, if I were you, I'd wait for the WM5 upgrade - at least until 1st April. Hopefully it won't be delayed again.

he hx4700 has a MUCH better screen than the x50v/x51v, not just because of the bigger screen but also because of its quality, particularly in Landscape mode (see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...3&p=578&more=1 for more info on the latter question).

Thanks!

Thank you both so much for the feedback - I appreciate it. Menneisyys - I think I'll take your advice - I'm a big fan of your comments on these forums.

I got rid of my iPaq 4700 last summer in favor of an x50v. I was immediately rewarded by the switch... faster, more reliable, less flakey. I have since upgraded to an x51v and am completely satisfied. I couldn't stand HP's lack of support and poor response. Dell has been great. Do it.
