Question about PPCTechs RAM Upgrade and Improving system performance with memory card
Ok, first question is:

Does getting the PPCTechs 128 mb RAM Upgrade drain the battery? I read somewhere (I think it was on aximsite), that the more RAM you have, the more power it consumes. I have heard some people say (I dont think they got the upgrade) that it will substantially lower your battery life. But others have said (one person who I am sure got it) that the effect is not noticable. Enlighten me, please

Second,

Will installing all programs on a 130x-150x SD card improve my performance? I've heard people say that part of the reason why there isnt a need for as much RAM in WM5 is because it uses a new type of Flash memory that is pretty fast so some programs can run in place, but than people say that "probably any SD card you use will be faster than the BIS". And even if it is faster, will it have the ability to "run in place", still?

Thanks in advance~!

1. to will double the power your ram takes so probably in an off state your battery life will drop by about half on not that much because of screen and processor take allot of power. It will lower your battery life some. I still run base ram thou.
2. I do not know

i very much doubt it will drain any faster and yes having a faster sd card does help, because it can read and write quickly.

why do you have to guess? It says it in my sig

I don't really notice any change in battery life. Probably because I've been using one for so long, but even so, it has very little impact. Last I checked, it has takes 15 mA. So from an 1100 mAH battery, you will lose about 1.36% more an hour from it. And to make matters better, TCPMP has a microdrive mode, which optimizes settings for play from microdrives.

Here is something to think about. When you increase the load on the battery ie using a microdrive or bigger flash and you use your pda constantly under heavy load your battery will not last as long as far as how many charge and discharge cycles it will be able to sustain before complete failure. The more load you put on your battery no matter how you do it the shorter the overall lifetime your battery will have. One advantage flash has over microdrive lower power consumption which means less load on the battery.

what's the difference? If I wasnt using the power by using a microdrive, I would be doing it a different way.

If we don't turn our PDA on the battery will last even longer. Chances are most of us will out grow our PDA before we ahve to replace the battery. I love my 8gig Microdrive for movies, etc .... I really don't concern myself with battery life.
