How to use Axim as video recorder?

Well, I have helmet cam to record my downhill bike ride and I want to use my Axim as a record device. I need a CF or SD card, that has VIDEO-IN connector to plug in my helmet camera. I have found one (FlyGrabber - http://www.ennovationtech.com/flygrabber.htm), but it's record is limited to 320x240 resolution . I want to record full motion PAL signal, which is 720x576 at 25 fps. Does exist any CF or SD card, which supports capturing video in full resolution?

The setting you're describing is known as DV or Digital Video. Even the BEST TV card for a PC would have trouble maintaining this, as the Real PC looses the steam momentarily, causing dropped frames. Even if it were possible, an hour’s worth of footage would be 13GB! I do Digital Video as a side business, and if you REALLY want to capture at that resolution, you’ll need to get the following:

1. DV Camcorder
2. IEEE 1394 (Firewire) card for your PC / Laptop
3. Video Capture software that supports DV
4. At least a 80GB HDD totally dedicated to Vide capture / Edit

First, use the DV camcorder as you would a regular camcorder. After the event, use the Firewire cable to connect the DV camcorder to your PC and turn the camcorder on. Make sure it’s in playback mode. After Windows XP detects the camcorder, launch your Vid Capture SW. It will see the camcorder and control it from there, rewinding the tape, playing it back and recording on the PC. There will be no dropped frames, and audio / video quality will be the best. From here, you can edit it and burn it to DVD, so that regular DVD players can play it.

But getting back to your question – there is no way any Pocket PC (or Palm) can capture video at 720x576. Cell Phones with video capture don’t even have this ability, again because of the large file sizes involved. Your best bet is the above, or settle for Quarter-VGA (which is GREAT for e-mail and Web BTW)

I know it's not what you're looking for...but I use this helmet cam on my helmet for paragliding:

http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/546970039.htm

It's 640x480, onto a SD card. Video is incredibly good considering the res and 15fps.

BTW - Since you already have a Helmet Cam, SOME DV Camcorders do have a VIDEO IN (Analog converter - uses SAME plug as VIDEO OUT). I would Get a Mini-DV if I were you. That way, it would fit in a belt pouch. Slide it to the back instead of the front, run your video wire, and you're off! Just FYI - Most DV that record in SP mode has 60min recording time on a standard DV tape (60m SP/90m LP), but if you switch it to LP, you get 90 min on that same tape. OR, you can get a 90m/135m tape, record in LP mode, and get 2h,15min!
