bluetooth stack?
What is this?
I did'nt know there is an issue with the bluetooth on the X51v.
My only issue with bluetooth is that the range is too short; it only works if
devices are in the same room, but isn't that normal in terms of bluetooth standards? Most importantly, it pairs with any bluetooth device.
I love my X51v the only issue I had is that the start menu had a delay
to display after its selected which really inconvenienced me whenever I am in a hurry to store a telephone number or make a quick note. Anyways, since I ran the
Dell diognostic utility and set the processor from 624 to Auto that problem has ben solved. My device works flawlessly, no hangups, active4.0 is on the ball- no problems at all. I have owned mine a month and a half and I have done a
hard reset , just 3 soft resets (that were requested after software deletions).
Lets face it WM5 has a lot of improvements and a new look so installing several third party softwares really clogs your system and wastes space.
I really haven't come across a software that makes WM5 or any of its application look better - probably Opera and GS finder file viewer.
For those of you complaining I know the only reason you complain is that you really love the X51v and want to see it work properly . Hadn't that been the case
you would have returned it. However, you think there is hope- Good Luck

A Bluetooth Stack is the software (always device specific, customized by the vendor or manufacturer. In this case the vendor, Dell) that makes use of the bluetooth hardware on your device. Bluetooth has a few different ways of connecting with other devices called profiles (OBEX [File Transfer], DUN [Dialup on Cellphones], A2DP [BT Headsets], etc.). The Bluetooth Stack that Dell has put on the Dell Axim x51v is very limited in that it does not support a whole lot of profiles. People who were upgrading from the x50v (or any other Axim before) now realized that they couldnt use their headset, their bluetooth headphones, their phone to send SMSs, their phone to dial numbers, etc. Some people who had spent hundreds of dollars on accessories bought the new Axim and couldnt use it any more because of limited software.

about the range, try to use a real good class 1 bt adaptor (like Cellink 6030 or Level One MDU-0025), you can get 20-30 meters range in sight

With my USB BT dongle, I can use it through one wall, which is pretty convenient since the room next to mine is where I am if I'm not here.

I have great range with my cheap-o CompUSA BT dongle, like some 50 feet or so.
As far as the stack problems, obviously pecos hasn't tried to use a bluetooth headset yet and/or doesn't own a bluetooth enabled cell phone.
I love my x51v. Its the first PDA I've ever owned and I've been working in the IT sector for almost 10 years. I know there are problems but I have faith that they will be fixed in the near future. WM5 is very new. Its bound to get better. I just can't wait until I can dial a contact on my phone, pause the music I'm listening too, and make a phone call without touching my phone. And of course, SMS messaging. I have the RAZR V3.
My 2 cents.
