Thank you for your words. Probably I should start using forum introducing myself. Later I saw some people do that. Sorry, but I think it is not too late.

It is right, I am new not only in X51v but also in hand helds, I have mine since past Christmas. But I have been working in electronic maintenance/development in Spanish Navy for 22 years. Last 10 years I worked on simulators where I become specialised in developing simulation visual systems software. So, harware and software is my job.

Very interesting you did a great job!

Could you give some detailed information on the cable connection ? I have not seen any other cable with vga and serial at the same time. Is there one ready to buy ? Also can you use the serial connection for any serial device ?

As I said in previous posts it is a self-made cable. I built it starting from a Dell VGA adaptor witch already has built-in power female. I made a hole each side of the connector, I opened it and I solder all USB lines and all RS232 lines.

See post #44 for connector pinout.

At post #32 you have a link to a non-wired connector.

I am testing serial port with my car diagnostics adaptor but I have some problems. I am still working on it.

I you are interested in some special serial device test just let me know.
If somebody tell me where to find a driver, I could make a test with a serial mouse.

I started this new thread: More about connectivity: Experiencing serial port
You probably find most of your answers there.
(Please use that thread for everything related with serial port).

Hola afarre.

Hi afarre
I'm sorry to wrute in spanish but I have a low level english.
I like your post much, it's very interestant. I have a carputer too and I don't like gps navigator aviable, there isn't TT navigator for PC. I'll think about to buy a CF Usb host and reorganice all

Best regars
I hope you can understand my english ;)

No Internet service though. Just a wireless hard drive, but i bet you could hardwire something so that you get internet through some kind of crazy phone plan with unlimited Internet accerss whereever cell signal can come from.

jeffersonkim: You can already do it with the e815 from Verizon. You don't need to hardwire it either. All you have to do is carry your phone with you (which you probably already do). It's illegal in more ways than one, but it's possible. Don't ask me how to do it though. You can check out howardforums for that.

it's free if you use the 1X speeds, but costs $50 or so per month with EVDO. You can use either speed, but you risk huge per-KB fees if you tether using EVDO. They don't really care about 1X tethering, i have been doing it for a couple years now.

sbddude: It's free if you tether with a usb cable. Tethering via bluetooth is still illegal.
