Well I've been looking for a pda or a pda phone for a couple months now, getting ready to start paramedic classes and wanted something to keep track of things (different med programs and appointments and all that crap). After bouncing back and forth between HP or Dell as a pure PDA and the Treo 700w or the 6700 from verizon I finally decided (with the help of you guys) to get the axim. So Monday I placed my order for the axim with the accidental damage and no accessories for now and had it 2dayed to me.
Got it about 30 minutes ago, haven't had a chance to load anything or do much. Just syncing Epocrates right now (takes awhile).
I ended up getting the 51v and didn't get much in the way of a discount, a 25% coupon and that was all, I think all said and done with the accidental damage it was 430ish.
The first PDA I've actually owned and I must say so far I like it alot, much nicer than the other ones I was looking at, and definatly glad I didn't go for the PDA Phone :)
Sorry if you guys get lots of these posts, I'm just excited and wanted to tell my story.
I'm also a n00b here, and very happy with my less than a week old Axim.
It's funny though - I have only just begun to get the whiff of "Dellism" that exists among some of my colleagues, who seem to assume that because the Axim is a keenly-priced option it's therefore going to be inherently bad. Someone today made a comment about how HP products are "leagues ahead" in terms of quality. But AFAIC their attitudes couldn't be further from the mark... I'm completely smitten with my X51v and (so far) it looks to me that like most Dell kit it's just fantastic value because of their keen position in the market. It's well screwed together, and it works!
Well I didn't buy mine because of Dells reputation, as a matter of fact, I ALMOST went with a non-mainstream brand because of Dell and HP's reputation. But I figured, they mostly only screw up their laptops and desktops and that the PDA market is a whole different ball game. I don't really need their phone support options, but being a EMT and soon a Paramedic, carrying that around with me, I DEFINATLY need their accidental damage plan.
I've been pleasantly suprised. Today was my day of goodies. My new video card, psu, external enclosure, and the pda came in today. Last week it was my 21inch gateway LCD and 30gig ipod. Next week I think I'll just stick to a toy truck and a plastic gun. Much cheaper toys ;)

(At the risk of being revealed as a 'toy soldier weirdo'...) Are you serious about the plastic gun? I can highly recommend them, as I'm an enthusiastic 'airsofter', and am convinced that if more of us guys played with toy bb guns at the weekend we'd get into far less grief with the real ones! :)

I do like airsoft although that's not what I was refering to as some of those guns can get expensive :P
All I have is a crappy single shot pistol I got from Bass Pro Shops. Well it's a good one, fires nice, but not fancy by anymeans. I just learned we have an airsoft shop like 300 feet from my apartment down a side street, just haven't checked them out yet.

Well, if you're trying to keep the next plastic gun purchase inexpensive, don't go and browse round your local airsoft shop! I've spent more on the hobby in the past 5 years than I've spent on computer kit by about a factor of 8 (and that's probably a conservative estimate, having gone through two complete desktop PC upgrades)! I've currently got the habit down to two Armalite-based rifles and a single pistol, from an all-time high of five G3-based weapons and a dozen or so bb-firing gas-powered small arms, full-auto and semi.
Good purchase. If you don't use bluetooth for many things you will be even more impressed.

Addition who needs that kind of stuff any way huh?
