Restore backup from 1 x51v to another x51v
I am getting an x51v replacement to replace my faulty one. Can I just do a full backup using the built-in backup software and then restore it onto the new one? Would everything still work? Would there be any compatibility issue?

Thanks

There shouldnt be any problems as long as you keep the same name on this ppc that you did on the last one...

Thanks for the quick reply. Which name are you referring to? Where can I find that name?

Thanks

I believe, if you use the activesync backup, that when you get the replacement you can sign in as a guest and restore without renaming. I just had to do that last month when my replacement arrived. Good luck. (X)

It seems that the built in backup causes some problems when restoring the PIM information. I have seen a thread in tghis site talking about it and offering a solution. Try looking for backup in the search function. Hope it helps.

The AS backup, unfortunately, doesn't work with WM5 devices.

Yup, it does. It's preferable to use Spb or Sprite Backup. More info: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...m_using&more=1

Similar backup issue with an x50v
Hi all - I'm having much the same issue with an x50v, which I have reasonably regularly backed up to my work PC (I'm running Linux at home, and haven't had time to play with syncing to Linux). I've only ever connected it as a Guest at work.

Randomly broke it, phoned up Dell, who have sent a replacement & taken away the dead Axim.

Now, when I try to connect to restore the backup, it fails to restore, with an error of "The selected backup file is not valid. Please select another storage file".

Any ideas about restoring it, or at least being able to get the data out of the .stg file that it has dumped it? At least once when I tried it I got another error message saying that it was because it was a different type of PocketPC, or that the regional info/name were different. AFAIK, they are now the same.
