I might be willing to give it a try if I can get a SOLID recommendation on a backup suite to use so that I can restore my Axim to its current state. I use it for work so I need it to remain reliable. Beta testing this stack has been held off because of this.

There are too many different opinions on which backup software is best - I don't care about glitzy features - all I want is the 'iron-clad guarantee' that I can restore my Ax to its current state.

In addition to Sprite, I also recommend Spb Backup (but NOTHING else - NOT the built-in Data Backup and NOT the Sunnysoft Backup Manager!).

I've posted a detailed comparison of the two apps in both here (the backup-related threads of the Applications forum) and my blog.

In my case it isn't a huge problem hard resetting several times a day. Axim is only a toy for me.

And there is one problem:
I can't fint the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\BCHSDRV Key

Another problem seems to be that even the latest 0.36 refused to work together with wifi... (The order of bluetooth/wifi activation doesn't matters). Worth mentioning, imho.

Don't worry about it, some can't find it either. I didn't find that key too but was able to install everything without a problem.

Hi all.

I commend the efforts at trying to engineer / explore the issue of BT upgrades
patches, fixes, and improved distributions for the X50V / X51 / WM2003 / WM5.

I think some basic information seems to be missing from the summary at the tops
of all the threads I can find about BT "solutions" / improvements / upgrades,
though, and that is what's the best / most fully functional patch set / upgrade /
version available based on what one is already running if one already has
A04 or A05 and is just looking for better functionality with stability and no
serious sacrifices in performance / functionality.

I'd be glad to upgrade to stack 1.7.x or whatever the "latest and greatest" may
become in time, though at the moment from anecdotal comments from others
on the board I wonder if stack 1.6.x or a patched 1.5.x is an upgrade
option "sweet spot" that improves functionality (e.g. adding A2DP) without
so many things in an unstable / non-working state (e.g. all audio) as the latest
"alpha version" 1.7.x distribution may now offer.

I'm running WM2003, X50V, A04 firmware, BT version 1.5.0.2600.

I would like eventually to run WM5 if there's ever a stable and more fully
functional AKU & BT software set for that, but for now I'm staying with WM2003.

In the "tweaks you need" thread sticky post it lists Broadcom/Widcomm stack
version upgrades, and an patch to support A2DP's function -- however it only
lists as appropriate those upgrages for those running X50V ROMs A01, A02, A03.
Quote:
..:: Bluetooth Stack Update(s) for the A03 ROM ::..
- Broadcom Bluetooth High Quality Audio Profile Addition (Title: HP iPAQ Bluetooth Stereo Headphones Driver Update | Link Provided by SolSie)

Note for this BT Update: This one is for those with the A03 ROM. Install the driver from the HP site. See SolSie's comments HERE

..:: Bluetooth Stack Update(s) for the A01/A02 ROMs ::..
- Broadcom Bluetooth High Quality Audio Profile Addition (Title: Broadcom Bluetooth Stack Patch for PDA2k Pocket PC Phones | Link Provided by SolSie)
- Broadcom Bluetooth High Quality Audio Profile Addition (Title: Broadcom 1.6.0 0600 LATEST BLUETOOTH BUILD | Link Provided by SolSie)

Note for these BT Updates: These two are for those with the A01 or A02 ROM. Install the one from the first link and then get the one from the second link as it is an update to the first. See SolSie's comments HERE
Nothing is listed about available upgrades to support a BT stack newer than
A04's 1.5.0.2600 e.g. the BT stack 1.6 that many people mention they're now
successfully using with A2DP functionality working.

My questions are

a) What's the most recent set of stable & fully functional BT stack & patch
upgrades appropriate to X50V WM2003 ROM A04 (coming from 1.5.0.2600 without
A2DP working)?

b) What's the most recent set of stable & fully functional BT stack & patch
upgrades appropriate to X50V WM2003 ROM A05 (coming from --unknown BT stack version--
to best get A2DP and all other possible upgrades working without sacrificing
existing functionality)?

c) What, if any, improved BT stack / profile versions would one get just from
upgrading X50V A04 1.5.0.2600 to X50V ROM A05? Would any sacrifices to
stability / functionality result?

BTW if there are specific things that need to be tested with the "leading edge"
alpha version I might sometime be able to help once I am ready for a full
X50V backup / hard reset / ROM upgrade / etc. I have X50V WM2003,
BT motorola cell phone & a couple various mono (non a2dp) headsets,
BT ThinkOutside keyboard,
a BT desktop with various Widcomm based profiles supported to talk to the X50V,
Visual Studio Standard edition & a few WM SDKs,

Thanks & keep up the good work!

Well, I gave in and downloaded a trial of Sprite 5.01. So far so good as far as backups go. Not so lucky on the A2DP forefront though. I was successful in getting .36 installed and working. No problems with WiFi if I start it first. I am also able to Activesync via BT. I don't have a BT cellphone yet so I can't test DUN, but I'm sure it will work.

I can create the High Quality Audio connection with my headset (590Plantronics) but when I try to connect to the service, no luck. I tried browsing the services offered by the 590 and none were found. I know it supports A2DP and AVRCP because I use them with a BT dongle on my PC. I guess there is still something missing from the .36 drivers, or it might be as simple as the UART not running fast enough to support the A2DP profile (and hence not finding it).

Let me know if there's more you want me to test.

But then again, aren't they all "toys"?

My X51v, my Nikon D70 + Lenses, my DeWalt collection (hee hee), my cars...

I call my X51v a toy,
my wife calls her X51v a "tool"...

Do I have important stuff on my x51v? Yes. How often do I hard-reset and re-install stuff? About once a month since last October (when I got it)... I'm weird like that.

I wonder how many other folks here consider their Axim a toy?
