A Moment of Silence Please

Please bow your head with me. I just burried my good friend X5 today. He was three years old which probably makes him about 150 in PDA years. He will be missed.

I've been lurking for a while now and just couldn't decide on which Axim to go with. So, I ordered both the X50 mid (new off Ebay for $225) and the X51v from Dell ($375 plus shipping). Both obviously returnable for any reason. Well, that screen on the X51v was a thing of beauty, but not worth the extra $150 for me (your opinions might be totally different and I completely respect that). I didn't notice any real difference in speed at all. I use my Axim purely for business so for me speed and compatibility are the two most important items in a PDA. I didn't have time to really explore 2003 SE vs. WM 2005, but to be honest I didn't have a real preferrence for one over the other. You gotta understand I've been living in 2002 for three years now so either OS is a real treat for me. I've read the horror stories of WM 2005 but can't validate that myself.

So, I sent the X51v back to Dell and am happy as a clam with the X50. Wow, the Axim has come a long way in three short years!

Thanks for all of your very good information on this site.

One thing to note -- the vast majority of the WM5 problems talked about here are on an x50(v) that has been upgraded. The x51(v) is much, much better.

Not that you should change your decision -- either PDA is great.

Sorry for your loss, just dont tell the EPA you burried X5 unless you want them to slap you with a hefty fine for inproper disposal of the lithium ion battery!

X5 Still running Strong

I have an X5 from 2002 and I still keep it synced up and update frequently. In fact, I have had so much trouble with my X51v that I have gone back to it a couple of times and carried it in my work in the medical field. It continues to perform flawlessly. The screen is not as pretty and it is not as fast as newer models but she continues to help me survive. She's a jewel.

The X50 Mid is a solid performing, reliable device. I've had mine for a year-and-a-half now and would not do without it. Good choice.

The longer time that I had the same pda was 1 year... mi little palm zire 31 (the hard buttons died in 2 months).

About WM5 I was very worried about it when I got mi X51v... but 5 hard resets later I have perfomed the best combination for my about software...

Don't be worry to try wm5
