it's called "pPod" ... and because of legality ... later on renamed to "pBop" .
do a search of those terms and you'll see ... ( case sensitive though !! )
you might even find a copy ... not that hard to find
it's old ... I believed they only supports up to WM2003 ... although I did managed it on a WM2003SE machine at one time ( old Toshiba )... works just like the iPod ... right down to the clickable sounds

Thanks Kazkin,
I haven't tried it on my X51v yet but am about to and will report back.
Cheers!

If your going to be carrying around your PDA\Phone anyways, you might as well use it as an MP3 player.
For me, there is no MP3 player on the market that can carry my entire MP3 collection let alone come even close to my video collection.
4 GB and 8 GB microdrives are cheap and gives me enough storage for what I'm listening too now. Plus I think the ability to stream my entire collection from my home computer over the net using Wi-Fi trumps any iPod. This will be especially true in my city soon where Wi-Fi coverage is being set up as we speak.
I use an extended battery and have never had it not last long enough for me, I'm never more than a few hours away from a power outlet. The battery life for me isn't an issue.
As far as interface and ease use, thats just a program away on the Pocket PC. If you don't like the way Windows Media Player works, or what features it has, or what Codecs it supports. Then get another media player.
For me I found Conduits Pocket Player to be my media player of choice. The new features in the latest version are great. Loading new music and making a playlist is easy using the media library. You can load by album, artist and genre and run a search for more detailed stuff like date. I have the buttons set up so I dont have to take my stylus out I can quickly load a track and make a playlist just as easily as any MP3 player I've tried.
I also have a subscription to eMusic ($0.25 a song, no DRM) and Yahoo music ($13.99 a month for ulimited downloads to my Pocket PC). Yahoo music doesn't work with the iPod and I find it to be a much better value than paying per track with iTunes.
I've compared the sound between an older generation iPod a friend had and my x50v with the x50mix and using Conduits Pocket Player (I swear it sounds better than the average player). The x50v sounded louder and fuller to me. But anyways how the heck can anyone prove it sounds better, it's completely subjective. I like the way it sounds, and it sounds way better than the onboard audio on home PC.
I have always had a phone, a PDA and an iPod. I have to replace all three this year (brilliant) and I'm sticking with the same format, in upgrade form.
- a better phone with bt and obex
- an Axim x51v - for anything school/work related, notes, organizer, movie player, games, you name it
- a 60 gig iPod
What is the use of a 60 gig iPod when you have an Axim x51v? Where to start... I would never go exercising with the Axim on me no matter what options they would have for cases. I run, I bike, I weight train; and even a 60 gig iPod seems a bit big, let alone an Axim with a beautiful VGA screen... if that thing got nicked in the least, I'd be a VERY unhappy camper. If my ipod's screen gets a bit scratched... oh big whoop.
I would never recommend getting a nano... that's just like asking to lose it or destroy it. Especially if you have an Axim that can offer you the same capacity for music. Something like a 60 gig iPod means that while you're out doing diverse things you can adjust your music to it. Basically carry a big chunk of your collection of music available at your fingertips. I'm finicky, what can I say (and my real collection is well beyond the 60 gigs).
The thing I love using an iPod the most for is trying new music. I make my own playlist of new songs and give them stars just after listening to each so I know which ones are keepers, which ones are going in the trash and what artists I need to explore further.
An Axim is a beautiful piece of machinery, but I can't say that the Axim replaces the iPod or the iPod replaces the Axim. Don't let the multimedia capabilities of both fool you, they're not similar in any way.

Agreed (for the most part), Axim and ipod can both play mp3 doesn't mean one replaces the other. I would use all the space available in the Axim for movies, ebook, pictures, games, and documents as these need a bigger and better screen to view them properly. The ipod is the best as playing music and I'll just use it solely for that.
I can bring the ipod out, put it in any pocket (with skin/sheild applied), mixed with keys and coins and still good to go. I can also use the scroll wheel to navigate w/o reading the screen all the time. The same thing can't be done w/ the Axim, I wouldn't dare bringing it out of the house w/o a hard case and I need to read the screen everytime when I need to stop/skip the music.
Even tho the ipod can also be used for viewing pictures, playing (a few) games, and even video. The 1.5" (nano) or the 2.5" (ipod viedo) screen just doesn't cut it comparing to Axim's 3.7" beautiful screen. Not to mention using these functions drains the battery much quicker and more recharges are needed, a sure-fire way to warrant battery replacement. Swapping in a new battery is much easier with the Axim than with any ipod.
I am a (new, proud) owner of an Axim and I also have an ipod nano. Their functions are somewhat overlapped but I've never thought either one is redundant because of the other.
The only part I couldn't agree with is the nano is much easier to carry around than the Axim for the same storage capacity. Its not a lot bigger than an Axim battery and I even put it in my jean/shirt pocket. You need at least a coat/cargo pants pocket to hold a 60GB ipod. I do not need all that storage of music for gym and jogging; physical dimension and weight are more important to me.
use wma instead of mp3 u can get cd quality as low as 64kbps which is only 0.5-2mb a file with ogg 96kbps is cd quality which is 2-3.5mb a song and mp3 is cd quality at 192kbps which is no lower than 4mb a song. ipods cannot handle wma or wmv files so a 1gb axim is better than 1gd ipod shuffle
iPod advantages: iTunes, iTunes Music Store, fashion, large storage (except nano), easy navigation,
Axim: WM, SD, CF, movie playback, WiFi,
depends what you need, for music only, iPod is better, easier to transfer music too
the Axim is an excellent swiss army knife device, but sometimes a dedicated tool can do a single task better. I don't think we should be embarrassed to admit that.
i can run my axim playing music for 6 hours straight using the factory fresh 1100mAh battery and GSPlayer...
the trick is to power down the processor and turn off the screen.
I suppose you'd get about 12 hours with 2200 and even more with a bigger one :)
huh?
i can get 10/11 hrs. (maybe even 12) with tcpmp. whats wrong with gs player there?
btw, procesdor on auto, screen off. i wish tcpmp wpuldn't unmap hotkeys in bacground play. :(

that's just not true. 64kbps wma sounds like crap, as does 96kbps ogg. personally, I can't listen to anything less than 192kbps wma/ogg, or 256-320kbps mp3 (depending on the music). I prefer to use ogg on my Axim (WMA = MS = DRM).
as to the OP's question, I used a Zen Micro before I got my Axim, however it hasn't been touched since I got it; my Axim has the same amount of storage and since I bring it everywhere with me, I might as well use it as an MP3 player rather than carrying another device.
